My 2024 Toyota Tundra Cost $71K and I Just Bought A Porsche Taycan For $58K. Why Isn’t Anyone Talking About This?

Trucks are overpriced, and electric sports car prices are plummeting. 

The truck market is experiencing a surge in prices, while the electric sports car market is witnessing a rapid decline in prices, a trend that is sure to pique the interest of any automotive enthusiast.

Alex Sedlak (@sedlakspam) is the voice of car enthusiasts when he asks, "Why isn't anyone talking about this?" 

The current landscape of trucks and EVs is indeed a strange one. With Toyota Tundra facing engine issues, it's certainly not the best time to invest in one. So, why did Alex opt for a Porsche Taycan?

Imagine being in Alex's shoes. He's young, single, and with enough disposable income to buy a 2024 Toyota Tundra for $71,000 and a 2021 Porsche Taycan for $58,000. While it may seem like a pipe dream, this scenario prompts a discussion on the affordability of these vehicles. This stark difference raises the question-was his decision wise, or will he regret it?

It doesn't mean it's a sound financial plan, but I remember being 21 years old and having a Chevrolet Corvette and a 57 Chevrolet Bel Air 2dr. Oh, how I wish I had those two cars now. 

Back to Alex's Tundra and Taycan story. 

Alex Sedlak is having the time of his life. He's single, has a beautiful girlfriend, owns a new Toyota Tundra pickup, and just purchased a 2021 Porsche Taycan. Life is good, for now.

However, he paid a lot of money for the Tundra ($71,000), and it appears he got a great deal on the 2021 Porsche Taycan ($58,000). 

As I said, if you look at the truck market compared to the electric sports car market, things are crazy right now. Trucks like the Toyota Tundra are overpriced, and electric sports cars like the Porsche Taycan prices are plummeting.

Check out Alex's story. 

As he points to the new sports car listings online, Alex says, "Why isn't anyone talking about this? Did you know you can get a Porsche for less than a Toyota Tundra? Look at this 2021 Porsche Taycan for less than $60,000; here is one for $56,000, and another one for $53,000, and they are good-looking cars too.”

"It's not a GT3 RS, but you can still drive a Porsche for 60 grand? Okay, it's a two-year-old Porsche, but it's a Porsche. My new 2024 Toyota Tundra cost $71,000."  

"It's an electric, too, which could be a downfall. But it's still a Porsche, and they look awesome and they are fast." 

He looks at the car's interior and sees the touchscreen stretching across the dash. "This whole thing is a screen, it's a beautiful interior, and I literally bought it over the phone today. I called my broker, and he said, "Send me a link, and I will give them a call,' and he negotiated the deal. I put $5,000 down, and now the car is being delivered tomorrow." 

"The payments are like $1,000 a month. My Toyota Tundra payment is about the same, and I put $15,000 down on the Tundra. So, you don't need a Lamborghini, bro. Don't be stupid with your money." 

Alex continues, "I think it's a great deal. I know the car community is probably going to be like, dude, it's freaking electric. A 2022 Electric." 

What does he say to the electric car naysayers? 

"I don't care, I really don't. It's a cool car, cheap, and it's a very nice-looking drive. It's on the way. It will be here tomorrow. Show you guys tomorrow," he says as he signs off the video. 

The Porsche Taycan arrives. 

After his Porsche Taycan is delivered, Alex says, "Alright, guys, we added to the fleet. We have the 2021 Porsche Taycan sitting next to the Mercedes G63. My girlfriend is driving that home."

What? He also owns a Toyota Tundra truck and a Mercedes-Benz G63. 

Alex lives in Florida and has a beautiful home (that he probably rents), a Toyota Tundra pickup, a Mercedes-Benz G63, and now a Porsche Taycan. 

Alex continues, "So we are whipping the Porsche Taycan. Can you believe that this thing was only $58,000? This thing is so mean for only $58K. This was so much less than my Toyota Tundra." 

"There are four displays inside. Look at this beautiful interior," Alex says as he shows the white leather interior. 

Okay, Alex obviously has money from somewhere. However, $2,000 in truck and car payments, and who knows about the G63?  

Maybe he's a trust fund baby. Who knows? However, was the Porsche Taycan a good buy? 

Alex purchased a 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S sedan. The original manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) was $107,700. Alex paid $58,000 for the 2021 Taycan, close to half its original price. 

Kelley Blue Book says the national average price is $54,643 for the 2021 Taycan. Why are the prices of the Taycan so low?

Car Scoops says, "Some blame goes to the model changeover. Porsche revealed a face-lifted Taycan in the spring that offers only small changes but vastly improved range and performance. And maybe some buyers bought or have ordered the new Macan Electric instead."

Reddit users are saying the same thing as Alex about Taycan pricing now. One user says he found a great deal and asks, "Good deal, yes or no?"

moozirt says, "I'm suddenly needing a new car soon and I've been wanting a Porsche Taycan since they've come out. I am gravitating toward this specific car for the Frozen Berry Metallic color. A private seller is selling the car and says they are open to negotiations."

"Is the listing price of $64,900 a decent price for a 2021 car with only 6,900 miles and these specs? This is pricing before making an offer, so there's potential for pricing to be lower. The original MSRP on this car was $111,000."

Most Reddit users agree it was a bit overpriced, but moozirt says it was a CPO vehicle, and he did buy the Taycan, and says, "The sellers were absolutely fantastic, has a warranty until June 1, 2025, or 50,000 mi. and I got a great deal on it in the end." 

Did Alex get a great deal?

I don't know the mileage of Alex's Porsche Taycan, but it's in excellent condition. The black-on-white is a striking color combo, and as Ramvet says on the Taycan Forum, "The Taycan 4S really scoots, accelerating like a 992 GT3 effortlessly."
