The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is marketed as the most track capable Corvette ever and while this GM supercar is engineered to be a beast on a road course, there is already one lightly modified C7 Z06 that has gotten into the 9-second quarter mile range – which is said to be the first new super-Vette to break the 9-seconr barrier.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the most powerful factory-built Corvette of all time, with the supercharged LT4 V8 delivering 650 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque. The new Z06 is also the heaviest Corvette ever, with a curb weight 3,524lbs in fastback form, but all of that power allows the premium performance Corvette to get down the quarter mile drag strip in a rush, with some owners getting into the 10 second range with nothing but good, sticky tires.
However, that wasn’t enough for the owner of the white 2015 Corvette Z06 shown here, so the folks at Fasterproms did some work to add more power. According to the details, the result was the first C7 Corvette Z06 to break into the 9-second quarter mile barrier.
The Modifications
The folks from Fasterproms wanted to squeeze some more power out of the 2015 Corvette Z06 without making any major changes to the engine itself. The stock supercharger was ported and a 2.31 pulley has been added for a little more boost. A modified AFE cold air intake package helps feed the blower and a new flex fuel setup allows the team to run E85 alcohol mixed with pump gas. Next, a set of ARH headers allows for better flow on the back end and to help keep the engine running cooler, Fasterproms added a thermal reduction plate to cut back on heat soak while a larger expansion tank provides more coolant for the supercharger housing.
Once all of these components were installed, the 2015 Corvette Z06 was tuned and tested, with impressive results. This Corvette put down 714 horsepower and 720lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels through the 7-speed manual transmission.
Quarter Mile Monster
More importantly, when a set of Hoosier drag radials were mounted up, this Corvette is able to put all of that power to the ground in a big way. With a strong 60 foot time of 1.48 seconds, the Fasterproms built C7 Z06 blasted down the quarter mile in just 9.87 seconds, with a speed of 138 miles per hour.
While I do not know for sure, this video claims that this white 2015 Corvette Z06 is the first in the world to break into the 9-second quarter mile range. I have not seen a video of another new Z running 9s, so I am inclined to believe this claim.
Regardless of whether or not this is the first ever 2015 Corvette Z06 in the 9s, it is one wicked fast American supercar that makes big power with fairly minimal modifications. Considering how little Fasterproms had to do to get this new Vette into the 9s, I would expect to see more and more 9 second C7 Z06s as more tracks open around the country.
In the meantime, crank up your speakers and check out the first 9-second 2015 Corvette Z06.
