Last week we brought you the news of the new 2017 Chevrolet Corvette with the 800hp Yenko conversion and today, we take a look at a similar package for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS – packing classic Yenko graphics and an 800 horsepower engine build.
The folks at Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) in New Jersey have acquired the legal rights to use the classic Yenko name and last week, we talked about their new 800 horsepower package for the C7 Corvette Stingray. Yenko Chevrolet built a variety of cars back in the 60s and 70s, but the most well-known is the Yenko Camaro so while the 800hp Yenko Corvette which we discussed last week might offer slightly better performance – the 2017 Yenko Camaro might prove to be the more popular model with someone who wants a modern muscle car with a classic design scheme. Of course, this modern Yenko Camaro isn't built by a Pennsylvania Chevrolet dealership, but SVE offers the classic Yenko look on a very powerful new Camaro.
The 2017 Yenko/SC Camaro
The 2017 Yenko/SC package for the new Chevrolet Camaro SS includes a spread upgrades inside and out, including a carbon fiber hood, custom 20 inch wheels, Yenko badges, embroidered headrests, 800hp badges on the cowl and trunk lid, Yenko doorsill plates, embroidered floor mats, a spread of unique colors with varying stripe packages and a unique engine cover, but the real news here is the engine.
The Yenko/SC Camaro package lifts the output of the LT1 engine from 455 horsepower to an incredible 800 horsepower, while torque rises from 455 to 750lb-ft – increases of 345 horsepower and 295lb-ft of torque. This is achieved by replacing the stock LT1 which measures 6.2L with a bored and stroked LT1 which has a final displacement of 6.8 liters (416 cubic inches). That engine features a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel h-beam connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons, a set of ported and polished LT1 cylinder heads, a unique 2.9L supercharger and all of the fuel system components from the Corvette Z06’s LT4.
This package is available with any 6th generation Chevrolet Camaro SS, including both the automatic and manual transmissions. The only downfall is the price and availability, as with only 50 units slated for production and a package price of $40,000 – which does not include the base price of the Camaro SS needed for the build – this 800 horsepower Camaro has a price in the area of $79,000.
That makes for one expensive Camaro SS, but considering the limited nature of this classically themed muscle car coupled with 800 horsepower and 750lb-ft of torque, this could be an attractive option for a new Camaro owner who wants to have one of the most limited and most powerful 6th gen Camaros on the road.
If you are one of those Camaro owners, you might want to contact Specialty Vehicle Engineering as soon as possible to place your order, as with only 50 of these packages being installed – they aren’t going to be available forever.
I think that if Don Yenko was alive today, he would be proud to see his name on both this and the 800hp Corvette, as they are each a cool embodiment of the classic Yenko muscle cars built in Canonsburg, PA with mild appearance upgrades and major performance upgrades.
