Nissan unveiled the all-new 2015 Micra meant specifically for the Canadian market, but taken directly from the European market for its specs.
As promised, Nissan unveiled the 2015 Micra for the Canadian market at the Montreal Auto Show this week. This car will become the new entry-level Nissan for that market and is based closely on the European version, but with some nuances suited for the Canadian buyer.
"Micra will change the automotive landscape and provide Canadians with the value and fun they deserve in an entry-level car," said Christian Meunier, President, Nissan Canada Inc. "With great visibility, impressive agility and excellent turning radius, Micra is designed for Canadian drivers. It will offer a small and fuel efficient, yet spacious and fun choice - at a great price."
Three models will be available when the Micra enters showrooms later this year. They will include the base Micra S, the mid-tier Micra SV, and the top-line Micra SR, all available with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The engine will be the 1.6-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC) four-cylinder used in Europe, but with Canadian-spec emissions with dual fuel injection and Twin CVTC.
The 2015 Nissan Micra will not be available in the United States, where it would compete with the slightly larger Versa. The Canadian-spec Micra will have features like outside mirrors, rear heater ducks to keep the back seat warm, 60/40 split-rear seats, and base 15-inch wheels with a 16-inch wheel option, both of which allow for a wide variety of currently marketed snow tire options.
"Micra will truly be a car for every Canadian," said Meunier. "It's been specifically designed for this market and has been thoroughly tested right here in Montreal in driving conditions Canadians typically face. It's ready for Canada. And we think Canada is ready for Micra."
