When every brand in the world is considered, be it cigars, beverages, household items, or automobiles, a list of the best of the best is made. Interbrand does this annually and has increased Nissan's ranking by 8 positions this year over last. Should it be higher?
According to Instabrand, the world-leading brand consultancy, the Nissan brand has grown by about 25 percent year-on-year to $6.203 billion, rising it through the ranks of the world's top brands in all categories from 73rd to 65th place. The annual Instabrand Best Global Brands Study is anticipated every year by corporations globally as a measure of how their marketing and branding efforts have paid off and this year, Nissan's has paid off big.
Instabrand noted that Nissan has taken leadership in zero emissions mobility, successfully rolled out the NISMO line of badged performance vehicles around the world, and increased its market share and interest among consumers. This new ranking follows a June 2013 ranking in Interbrand's Best Global Green Brands report, which saw the company ranked 5th out of 50 global brands thanks to the Nissan LEAF as the best-selling all-electric car in the world.
"The power of our brand is a core pillar of our Nissan Power 88 strategic plan, which means that it's essential to our growth plan," said Roel de Vries, Nissan Corporate Vice President and global head of marketing, brand and communications. "These rankings demonstrate we're on track to achieve the ambitious brand power goals we set in our mid-term plan."
Interbrand issues the global report every year, valuing brands and ranking them from top to bottom. Several factors are taken into account, including survey data, financial performance, ongoing investment into the brand's management, and more. Interbrand specifically marked innovation as the most important part of Nissan's brand DNA.
