It's not unusual for high-powered executives like Carlos Ghosn to have a driver chauffeur them around town. This time, however, Ghosn was driven to Nissan's new Silicon Valley facility by the car itself.
Carlos Ghosn (above, on the left) is the Chief Executive of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which together comprise one of the world's largest automotive producers. Ghosn recently visited Silicon Valley to check out the new Nissan innovation center there and see how things are progressing on the new-age technological front. To get there, he got into an electric Nissan LEAF, which drove him to the facility.
Yes, the car drove him.
The Renault-Nissan Research Center hosted an Alliance Innovation Tour for the media and Renault-Nissan executives. Based in Silicon Valley, the tour also allowed area entrepreneurs to see the latest in autonomous vehicle technologies from the Alliance on what Nissan calls its "Roadmap to 2020," with 2020 being the year they believe fully self-driving cars will be in production.
During the tour, Ghosn was driven in an autonomous LEAF to see first hand the developments that have been made since the last time he was driven by one, that time on a closed track in Japan a year or so ago. This time, the car was out on public streets. Watch how that went below.
