A new Level 2 Home EV charger from a company in Colorado looks to offer a lot of features for the dollar.
A new charger product from Colorado-based Emporia has caught our interest. The first thing we like about it is the price. At just $399, the new EV charger from Emporia comes in below many competitors' costs. The second thing we like about this charger is that Emporia says it is UL Listed. That’s a rare feature at this low price point.
The Emporia Electric Vehicle EV Charging Station Level 2 electric vehicle charger can either offer up to 40 amps of power when used with a NEMA 14-50P receptacle or, when hard-wired, offers up to 48 amps. The unit comes with a generous 24’ cable (measured from charger to tip of gun). Of course, it has an SAE J1772 connector, the North American universal standard. Outdoor installation is also possible due to its watertight NEMA Type 4 enclosure made to withstand the elements or an occasional spritz from a hose while washing your Mustang Mach-E (or whatever EV you prefer to drive).
The Emporia Level 2 EV charger also has some fancy features. It’s Energy Star-rated, so it could consume up to 40% less energy when in standby mode. A nifty phone app allows an Ev owner to take advantage of off-peak electricity pricing by scheduling charging.
Emporia is an energy company that offers a wide variety of green home energy products. The company was named One of America’s Best Home and Garden Brands by Newsweek this year. “Being recognized by Newsweek for their Best Home and Garden Brands this year is a huge honor for our company,” said Shawn McLaughlin, Emporia CEO. “Our customers are our number one priority, so being selected by Newsweek, which we know is such a trusted voice in product reviews and quality assurance for consumers, is particularly valuable to us. We also are deeply thankful to our loyal customers, whose positive ratings and reviews are what determined our placement on this highly-selective list of honorees.”
In addition to EV chargers, Emporia offers energy monitors, solar power equipment, smart plugs, battery banks, and other products for the green power homeowner.
Torque News has not yet tried the new Emporia Level 2 Home EV charger, but watch for more news on Emporia products and a possible test of the product in the coming months. If you have purchased an Emporia Level 2 EV charger, feel free to offer comments in our section below.
