Mazda jumps seven sports in Consumer Reports' Best Brands Rankings as legacy premium brands fall back.
Mazda has climbed in the latest Consumer Reports Best Brands rankings. The newest data from Consumer Reports shows that Mazda is now tied with Lexus and that the brand has advanced to top Tesla, Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Volvo, and Infiniti. Mazda's new spot is also ahead of Toyota and Honda.
Unlike Consumer Reports reliability rankings, this new ranking ranks brands overall. It is based on four elements including a vehicle’s road-test score, the latest predicted reliability and owner satisfaction ratings from CR's Auto Survey, and the presence of key safety features and crash-test performance. Mazda scored exceptionally well on predicted reliability, road testing, and owner satisfaction. Four of the five Mazda models are also on the Consumer Reports "Recommended" listing.
Mazda's overall score of 76 ties Lexus and BMW for fifth place. Audi scored a 77, Porsche a 79, Genesis an 80, and Subaru, the top brand overall, an 81. The bottom-ranked brands are Fiat (44), Jaguar( 44) and Land Rover (48).
Other brands that rose in the rankings included Mini and Lincoln. Ram was excluded not by a low score, but because Consumer Reports requires that a ranked brand have at least two models on its recommended list. Ram only makes a truck.
Other Recent Mazda News
Mazda was also recently a standout on the Consumer Reports Reliability rankings rising to number three overall. The Mazda brand was also named "Best Car Brand" in a recent ranking done by U.S. News & World Report.

"... and Subaru, the top
"... and Subaru, the top brand overall, an 81 [score]." Unlike the other high rated brands, Subaru has had many class action lawsuits as well as distraught customers. Consumer Reports has zero integrity regarding Subaru. A "Subaru class action lawsuits" search will confirm this posting.
Just to elaborate on Mark Day
Just to elaborate on Mark Day's accurate comment, multiple Subaru models have had their warranties extended over two low probability, but high consequence quality defects. The two most recent are the oil consumption/engine failure issue and the second is the CVT transmission failure issue. We would caution any used Subaru shopper to carefully look into both of these issues if they are considering a used Subaru. Thank you, Mark. I would have added a note on this if the story's focus had been on Subaru.
