We take a look at Mazda's CX-30 and determine that its cargo area is more than large enough for shoppers in the compact crossover class.
We tested the Mazda CX-30's cargo capacity this past weekend and found that it is surprisingly large. As luck would have it, we had a new 2021 CX-30 2.5 Turbo AWD Premium in our driveway the day a huge load of furniture from IKEA arrived that we need to transport. The pile of stuff looked intimidating. Particularly one item that was 60-inches long. Would the CX-30 be able to handle the load plus our usual overnight stuff? Yes!

We piled the stuff into the CX-30 and were amazed that even with the sixty-inch item behind the passenger seat, my wife (and fellow Torque News contributor) was still comfortable in her front seat. The CX-30 swallowed so much Swedish furniture we were amazed. Best of all, the vehicle still felt roomy after we loaded it all up. At least for two occupants. The reason for that is the CX-30's lower seat height and added room in the driver's right knee area. Subjectively, the CX-30 feels roomier from the driver's perspective than the larger CX-5 we own as our personal vehicle.
You can view a video of the CX-30 all loaded up at this TikTok video if you want to see more angles and details. Due to the 310 ft-lb of torque the CX-30 Turbo has, the vehicle also still felt quick when packed to the gills with heavy metal and wooden furniture.

The CX-30 offers about 20 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats and about 45 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. One thing to keep in mind about cargo volume is that it assumes you pack the vehicle to the ceiling. Most people don't do that. Cargo length and width are equally important, and here the CX-30 shines. Below the cargo floor is a compact spare and still more room for stashing your emergency supplies.
Mazda's CX-30 has earned one of the fastest-growing sales curves among all compact crossovers. Sales of the CX-30 have doubled year over year according to last month's report. The CX-30 is now second behind the CX-5 in sales and closing the gap but leaps and bounds each month. Factually, Mazda's CX-30 sales are only limited by factory capacity at this point, it is that popular.
