In the latest Toyota/Lexus survival story, two young women drive their RAV4 off of a New Jersey highway and plunge 60 feet. Both are expected to recover.
Earlier this month two women in a previous generation Toyota RAV4 were forced off of a roadway in New Jersey. They jumped the guard rail, and the vehicle fell 60 feet. On the way down, the vehicle hit a tree and landed on a fence. Neither woman suffered life-threatening injuries. This is just the most recent of many Toyota/Lexus sport-ute and pickup truck crashes that have made headlines in which the occupants were not killed, but by all appearances should have been.
RAV4 Flies Off Highway, Falls 60 Feet
As the TomoNews.net video below explains in graphics and photos, the accident began when a truck moved ahead of the RAV4. The driver reacted, and the poor road conditions led to the initial part of the crash. The RAV4 leaves the elevated roadway and falls. In this accident, the vehicle ends up wheels-down. However, in the case of the woman that drove her Lexus RX350 crossover off the fourth floor of a parking garage, the vehicle landed upside down on its roof. That driver also survived and exited the vehicle on her own. In the case of the Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck that flew off the highway, it landed nose-first. That driver also survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lexus Toyota Safety
Of course, many people are killed in cars of all brands and styles. However, in its recent study of vehicle models and deaths per million registered vehicles, IIHS did point out that three Toyota Lexus models, the RX350 AWD, the Toyota Highlander AWD, and the Sequoia AWD had zero reported driver deaths over the most recent three-year period studied. Maybe it is not a coincidence that all these positive outcomes are Toyota/Lexus trucks, SUVs and crossovers.
