Which car brands have drivers with the most speeding tickets? Unfortunately, Subaru drivers are bad again. Check out the top ten worst offenders list and which Subaru model gets the most tickets.
Every year, Insurify compiles the car brands with the most speeding tickets. Where does Subaru rank in the top ten list of worst offenders? Subaru drivers are again bad and ranked number four among the top ten. Check out the complete list here. You can probably guess which Subaru model gets the most speeding tickets and which Subaru model gets the least number.
Speeding can be dangerous, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that speeding was a contributing factor in 29 percent of traffic fatalities in 2020, causing the deaths of 11,258 people.
Insurify says while speeding is common, drivers of certain car brands seem to be guilty of this traffic offense more often than others. To identify the car brands with the most speeding tickets, the data science team at Insurify turned to their database of more than 4.6 million car insurance applications. See if your car brand made the list.
The Infiniti car brand was the worst offender, followed by Scion, Volkswagen, Subaru, Mazda, Audi, Kia, Honda, BMW, and Hyundai. Research finds that the national average is 7.1 percent of all drivers with speeding tickets.
The percentage of Subaru drivers with a speeding violation is 8 percent. So which Subaru model is the worst offender? If you guessed, it's the sport-tuned Subaru WRX and the performance-tuned Subaru WRX STI sports cars, you were right.
The worst offender is the Subaru WRX, with 13.6 percent of drivers reporting a citation. So who is the best-behaved Subaru driver? Unsurprisingly, only 1.9 percent of Subaru Ascent SUV family hauler drivers have a speeding citation.
Insurify says, "All 10 of the worst offenders are either high-performance sporty vehicles or beloved for how fun they are to drive. Speeders may choose zippy cars with powerful engines, rather than the cars tempting otherwise safe drivers to put the pedal to the metal."
It's no surprise since the WRX and STI attract a performance buyers in the 25-35-year-old age range. The all-wheel-drive sports car is designed for speed and handling, so it's bought by those who like performance.
Insurify says, "The Subaru WRX is an everyday driver that can also move like a rocket through whatever nature throws at it. So is it any wonder 13.6 percent of WRX drivers report getting a speeding ticket?
Buyers of the Subaru Crosstrek, Outback, and Forester all-wheel-drive models are stereotyped as the preferred vehicle for outdoorsy, dog-owning nature lovers, making their appearance on this list a bit surprising.
But in addition to making practical all-terrain vehicles that can carry mountain bikes, camping gear, and a kayak, Subaru also makes the performance-oriented WRX focused on speed and handling. It's why WRX drivers push Subaru up to the number four car brand with the most speeding tickets.
