Subaru introduced new 2017 Impreza 2.0i Sport models at the New York Auto Show. Why will they be for driving enthusiasts?
Subaru will bring out a new 2017 Impreza 2.0i Sport that will ramp up driver engagement over the standard models. What features will set this new model apart? Besides the stiffer platform and more powerful engine that all new Imprezas will come with, the new compact Sport model, available in sedan and 5-door versions, comes with at least 10 new features that set them apart.
Improved driving dynamics in the corners
The new Impreza Sport will have improved driving dynamics over the standard models for driving enthusiasts. It will come with exclusive suspension tuning, 18-inch machine-finish alloy wheels and Active Torque Vectoring (ATV). This system has been available on WRX and WRX STI performance models and reduces cornering understeer that tends to occur due to the influence of the front-rear vehicle weight imbalance when cornering. The system applies the brake to the front inner wheel to help pull the front of the vehicle into the corner for a more neutral steering effect. Combined with Impreza’s all-wheel-drive, it will improve driving dynamics in the corners and ramp up the fun-to-drive meter.
Exclusive exterior and interior styling
The new 2.0i Sport gets new exterior styling features that set the Impreza Sport apart further. It will come with steering-responsive LED headlamps, black front grille, body-colored rocker panels and door mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. The Impreza Sport 5-door model features glossy black rear gate trim, while the sedan gets a rear trunk spoiler.
Inside, the Impreza 2.0i Sport features black cloth seats trimmed with red stitching as part of a design and will also be incorporated on the instrument panel and door trim. The red-stitching repeats on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift boot and parking brake. The instrument panel gets upgraded gauges with chrome rings and a multi-function display.
Sport also comes with a new 8.0-inch touchscreen navigation system and aluminum pedals. When equipped with EyeSight, the new Sport model adds keyless access and a push-button start, together with reverse automatic braking and high beam assist. The Sport also includes a new 4-way Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
The new 2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport gets a sport suspension and Active Torque Vectoring for improved driving dynamics that should ramp up the fun-to-drive meter. The revised 2.0-liter boxer naturally aspirated engine will also help boost performance with its direct fuel injection and 4hp increase. The new compact Impreza will be built at the newly-revamped plant in the U.S. and will be available in Subaru showrooms later this year.
