The 2022 Subaru Forester and 2022 Subaru Outback are among the top-10 most-shopped cars again. The all-wheel-drive vehicles are popular but see what it means for SUV shoppers.
According to new data from Kelly Blue Book's (KBB) Brand Watch Report, the 2022 Subaru Forester and 2022 Subaru Outback are still among the top-10 most-shopped vehicles in 2021. The Forester makes the most significant move up and is now the fifth most-shopped new vehicle, and the Subaru Outback is the sixth most-shopped new model.
The Subaru Forester wins the popular compact SUV category, and the Subaru Outback is the most popular model in the midsize SUV segment. The data comes from new vehicle shopping and consumer perception findings in the latest KBB report for Quarter three in 2021.
The Forester compact SUV and Outback midsize SUV are Subaru of America's number one and two best-selling models, respectively, in the all-wheel-drive lineup. But because they are so popular, the Camden, N.J. automakers can't keep them on retailers' lots.
The Subaru Forester makes the most significant move up
KBB says, "Subaru's Forester compact SUV jumped up five spots from Q2. After leveling off in Q2, SUVs once again jumped in Q3, owning 66 percent of consideration among all non-luxury shoppers. The top five most-shopped utility vehicles were comprised exclusively of Asian brands: Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback and Kia Telluride."

Subaru continues to have the lowest inventory of any automaker, and a new report from Automotive News says, "Subaru of America continued to have the tightest inventory levels."
Even though the new Forester and Outback have the scantest inventories this fall, buyers are ordering the new all-wheel-drive model and waiting for the manufacturer to ship their vehicle to the retailer.
What does it mean for Subaru shoppers?
New Subaru vehicles are arriving this fall, but cars "in-transit" from the plants in Japan and Lafayette, Indiana, are selling before even arriving at the dealership. The ones making it to the lot often sell the same day.
The newly-refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester and 2022 Subaru Outback are among the top-10 most-shopped vehicles, and it's challenging for customers to find them and other new Subaru models. Subaru has the tightest supply of any automaker in the U.S. at five days, and things may not improve until 2022. Stay tuned.
