The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is getting a lot of attention these days for its unique new styling and innovative technology. The three-door coupe from South Korea has gotten the attention of the automotive world and has been named one of the “10 Coolest New Cars Under $18,000” by Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. The 2012 Hyundai Veloster has certainly challenged the staus quo in the auto world as the Hyundai Motor Group continues to bring new cars to market faster than any other carmaker.

The press release issued today by Hyundai says there are two key factors that the editors of the new and used information resource use to determine which cars are picked for the award. In order to make the KBB list, the cars must be fun-to-drive and fun-to-own. But a very subjective “cool factor” is also one of the criteria that the 2012 Veloster had to meet.

“Packed with a unique brand of versatility, innovative technology and left-field styling, the Hyundai Veloster challenges the status quo to a duel,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. “The 3-door Veloster – one on the driver’s side, two on the other – is among the most distinctive cars available at any price.”

Another key criteria that KBB uses is that each vehicle on the list must be available for purchase for under $18,000. Kelley Blue Book uses their exclusive Fair Purchase Price as the measuring stick. KBB’s Fair Purchase Price is the price consumers typically pay for a car, based on actual new-vehicle transactions and updated weekly for changing market conditions.
