Higgins and Drew, won their seventh event at the wheel of their 2015 Subaru WRX STI to keep the win streak alive. How close was Pastrana?
SRT USA pulled off a perfect rally at Ojibwe Forests with a one-two podium finish. David Higgins and Craig Drew earned first place in their #75 2015 Subaru WRX STI as Travis Pastrana and Chrissie Beavis took second in their #199 STI.
The two day rally was not without its challenges for both Higgins and Pastrana. After getting a win in the first stage, a punctured tire on stage two put Higgins and Drew in third place. They returned and won the next four night stages keeping a 35 second lead over teammates Pastrana and Beavis.
Higgins and Drew started Saturday with a stage win on Walde Trail and then had a rough landing in stage eight and the 2015 WRX STI suffered damage which nearly put the lead in jeopardy. The duo managed to get the STI back on the road and lost no more than the three seconds they'd gained on the first stage of the day.
Pastrana and Beavis also had difficulties as their Subaru hit a "watermelon-sized rock" as Pastrana described it to Subaru Motorsports on stage nine’s deceptively named Little Rock. They got the #199 WRX STI back on track and put the pedal down and won the next three stages. Higgins finished the rally by winning the last three stages at Ojibwe Forests Rally to secure the seventh victory out of seven Rally America races this season.
It was an all Subaru podium at Ojibwe Forests Rally as Nick Roberts and co-driver Rhianon Gelsomino rounded out the podium in third place in their 2013 Subaru WRX STI and took their fourth Super Production class win of the season. This was Higgins and Drew’s thirteenth straight Rally America win and they look unbeatable.
Higgins told Rally America, “It's a combination of everything: the work our team puts in, the work we put in, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI, everything. It's been awesome.” Both Higgins and Pastrana head to LA to do battle in the Red Bull Global Rallycross double header September 12-13. Stay tuned.
