Why should customers consider buying the 2022 Subaru Outback? One reason is its safety performance. See why the Outback now wins the best global safety award.

Subaru says it manufactures the safest vehicles, but is it true? Outback picked up another global safety award this week, and it's only given to the safest cars. One of the reasons the 2022 Subaru Outback is the top-selling Wagon/Crossover in the U.S. is its top safety performance.

Subaru Corporation announced the 2022 Outback won the "Best Vehicle Award in Japan's New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP). The prestigious award is given to vehicles equipped with an automatic accident emergency call system that has received the 'A rank' evaluation for both collision safety performance and preventive safety performance.

Outback gets the highest score of any Five-Star vehicle

The Outback gets a Five-Star award and received an "A" in safety performance with its Advanced Automatic Collision Notification system available with Subaru's Starlink connected services. Among all the Five Star awarded vehicles, the Outback earned the highest overall evaluation points (185.02 out of 190 points), and it now receives the JNCAP Best Award 2021.

What does the top safety score mean for customers?

The Outback has improved crash absorption from the previous generation Outback. Subaru says a second load path structure has been adopted to reduce damage not only to the occupants of the Outback but also to the other car in the event of a crash.

Collision avoidance at intersections

In preventive safety performance, the Outback now comes with the new generation EyeSight with a wider viewing angle and is standard equipment on all trim levels. The Outback also comes with the new electric brake booster, which improves the responsiveness of braking assist to support collision avoidance at intersections.

Subaru says it also supports collision avoidance with oncoming vehicles going straight when turning right, pedestrians when turning left and right, and bicycles crossing.

Should customers wait for the 2023 Outback?

The 2023 Subaru Outback is the first U.S. model to get a new Wide-Angle Mono Camera. The report from Subaru Corporation says the additional camera enhances the performance to recognize pedestrians and bicycles when the vehicle is entering an intersection at low speed. Customers who wait for the refreshed 2023 Outback can get the Limited trim level with the new camera.

Subaru's goal is to eliminate traffic accident deaths, and the new safety technology is the next step in accomplishing it by 2030. Subaru says it will add the new camera to the entire Subaru of America lineup, including Forester, Crosstrek, and Ascent models.

What is the price of the 2023 Outback?

The refreshed 2023 Subaru Outback will be available in Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring trim levels. Pricing will be announced closer to the retailer launch.

This fall, the refreshed 2023 Subaru Outback will arrive for U.S. customers. The Outback is now the safest model in the Japanese automaker's lineup and has been awarded the "Best Award" for safety from JNCAP.
