Is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek fuel efficient? The EPA says the new Crosstrek Base and Premium trims get one MPG less than the outgoing model. What about the 2024 Crosstrek Sport and Wilderness trims? There's a significant difference. Check the report here.

How fuel-efficient are the remodeled 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Base and Premium trims with the 2.0-liter engine, and the Sport, Limited, and all-new Wilderness trim levels with the 2.5-liter engine? The EPA recently released the next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek gas mileage, with a few surprises.

The EPA reveals the 2024 Crosstrek subcompact SUV Base and Premium trims with the 2.0-liter engine now get one mile per gallon less in the city and combined mileage than the 2023 models. The report also reveals the all-new 2024 Crosstrek 2.0-liter engine gets one more MPG in highway driving.

The 2024 Crosstrek Base and Premium trims get 27/34 mpg and 29 combined mpg with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic. Subaru dropped the 6-speed manual trims.

What is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport, and Limited fuel mileage?

The EPA recently released the 2024 Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and all-new Crosstrek Wilderness fuel mileage. Many buyers want the added horsepower that the 2.5-liter engine provides. All three trims come with the newly re-tuned 2.5-liter Boxer engine with additional power for active customers using the subcompact SUV to get off-road. The engine now delivers a more responsive 182 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 2023 Crosstrek Sport and Limited, with the 2.5-liter engine, achieves 27/34 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. The 2024 Crosstrek Sport and Limited now get an EPA-estimated 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. A one mpg drop in city and highway, but gets the same 29 combined city/highway.

What is the all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness fuel mileage?

The more rugged 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness trim level also uses the re-tuned 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine. The 2024 Wilderness trim gets an EPA-estimated 25/29 city/highway mpg and 27 combined mpg. That's a one mpg drop in city driving, four mpg less in highway driving, and two mpg less combined city/highway than the Sport and Limited.

Why do the 2024 Crosstrek trims get lower fuel mileage?

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek has added weight due to the exterior cladding and new EyeSight driver-assist safety technology. In addition, the newly redesigned front facia could also be less aerodynamic than the outgoing 2023 models.

There haven't been any changes to the 2.0-liter engine's horsepower and torque, but the re-tuned 2.5-liter liter Crosstrek engine gained slightly in torque. The previous model had 182 horsepower and 176 lb. -ft. of torque. The 2024 Crosstrek now has 182 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.0-liter engine stays with 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque.

The outdoor-themed 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness has additional upgrades that drop the mileage over the Sport and Limited trims. Crosstrek Wilderness has added weight due to the upgraded suspension, larger all-terrain tires, more prominent wheel arch cladding, and a metal front skid plate.

The Crosstrek Wilderness is less aerodynamic because it rides higher and has 9.3 inches of ground clearance vs. 8.7 inches for the Sport and Limited trim levels.

What type of gas does the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport, Limited, and Wilderness require?

With fuel prices rising, do you need the more expensive grade of gasoline for the 2024 Crosstrek? If you buy the new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, all trim levels with either the 2.0-liter or the 2.5-liter engine are designed to run on 87 octane or regular gasoline, and you don't need expensive premium or mid-grade unleaded gas.

12 Easy Tips To Improve Your New Subaru Or Any Car's Fuel Mileage This Winter

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is still fuel efficient even with the new upgrades. If you buy the 2024 Crosstrek Base or Premium trim with the 2.0-liter engine, the remodeled Crosstrek subcompact SUV now gets one mile per gallon less in the city and combined mileage than the 2023 models and improved one MPG in highway driving.

If you buy the 2024 Crosstrek Sport or Limited trims with the 2.5-liter engine, there's a one mpg drop in city and highway, but stay the same 29 combined city/highway over the 2023 models.

It's not a surprise that the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness is less fuel efficient than the Sport and Limited trim levels with the same 2.5-liter engine because of its added off-road upgrades. It will use more gas to get further away from civilization and off the grid. But we think it's well worth it.
