The 2022 Outback is Subaru's best-selling model in 2022. Here's why and how it compares with the top 25 selling vehicles and the top 2-Row SUVs in the U.S. this year.

The 2022 Subaru Outback midsize SUV is Subaru of America's best-selling model. See where it ranks among the top 25 selling cars, trucks, and SUVs in the U.S. this year. There are several reasons why it's the top Subaru model.

In June, the 2022 Subaru Outback remains the top performer in the lineup with 13,135 sales even though sales dropped 19.9 percent compared with June 2021 (16,394). The Outback is also the number one selling model in the first six months, with 77,341 midsize SUVs delivered to customers. What is impressive is the Outback is down 11.7 percent year to date but still leads Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup.

How does the Outback compare in sales with other Two-row SUVs?

The Outback ranks sixth in sales among Two-Row midsize SUVs in total sales. The Chevrolet Equinox is number one, with 116,678 sales in 2022. It is followed by the Jeep Wrangler (99,497), Nissan Rogue (89,249), Hyundai Tucson (84,071, Mazda CX-5 (81,804), and Subaru Outback (77,341).

What sets the Outback apart?

The 2022 Subaru Outback midsize SUV rides higher with extra ground clearance (8.7-inches) than most family haulers. The all-new rugged Wilderness trim gave the Outback a significant boost in sales. The Outdoor-themed trim level comes with 9.4-inches of deep sand, mud, or snow-clearing clearance, and it also comes standard with Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive.

The Onyx Edition and Wilderness also have a new dual-function X-Mode for added off-pavement capabilities. The new system has settings for Snow and Dirt mode to the new Deep Snow/Deep Mud Mode and is best for sand where traction is compromised.

What is the price of the 2022 Outback?

The 2022 Outback comes in eight trim levels; the base trim is priced from $28,820, Premium ($31,020), Limited ($35,470), Touring ($39,370), Onyx Edition XT ($37,020), new for 2022, Outback Wilderness ($38,870), Limited XT ($39,870), and Touring XT ($41,820). Pricing includes $1,175 destination and delivery fees.

What is the Outback fuel mileage?

The EPA fuel mileage rating of the 2022 Outback XT 2.4-liter turbo is 23/30 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg. The estimated fuel economy of the standard 2.5-liter engine is 26/33 mpg city/highway and 29 combined mpg. The new 2022 Outback Wilderness gets an EPA-estimated 22/26 city/highway mpg and 24 combined mpg.

What's next for the 2023 Subaru Outback?

Customers may want to wait for the newly-upgraded 2023 Outback. The Outback midsize SUV gets new updates with a redesigned front fascia, the latest version of EyeSight safety technology, and a new wide-angle mono camera. Subaru also updated Outback's multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Outback?

The 2023 Outback now comes in nine trim levels for U.S. customers; the base trim is priced from $29,620 (+$800), Premium ($31,920 +$900), new Onyx Edition with a 2.5 liter engine ($34,720), Limited ($36,520 +$1,050), Touring ($41,070 +$1,700), Outback Wilderness ($39,670 +$800), Onyx Edition XT ($39,820 +$2,800), Limited XT ($40,920 +$1,050), and Touring XT ($43,520 +$1,700). Pricing includes $1,225 destination and delivery fees (an increase of $50).

Before the refreshed 2023 Outback arrives, the 2022 Outback is among the top twenty-five best-selling new cars in 2022 and the sixth top-selling Two-Row midsize SUV through the year's first six months. It's Subaru's only model to make the list.

Thanks for compiling this list. I have read about how the crosstrek is the hardest to come by, sells are number one for that particular model, out doing the other models and yet only the outback was on the list, and in the bottom quarter!? I was actually surprised a bit at the top 50% of list. I thought there would have been at least one more Subaru in there
