A new report from Kelley Blue Book reveals the top models this quarter, and the 2023 Subaru Forester and 2023 Subaru Outback are on the new list but are almost last on the list.
Americans continue to buy more SUVs than cars, so you choose models like the Forester and Outback. Both models offer utility; they are affordable, fuel-efficient, and get the highest safety crash scores. But you would buy more if you could get them.
The 30 most chosen models
In order of ranking, the top 30 models are the Ford F-Series, Ram pickup, Chevrolet Silverado, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Camry, Toyota Tacoma, Honda CR-V, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, Ford Explorer, GMC Sierra, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Highlander, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Escape, Ford Bronco, Kia Forte, Toyota Tundra, Honda Accord, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Santa Fe, Subaru Outback, Honda Pilot, and Nissan Altima.

Not all SUVs in the list above come standard with all-wheel-drive like the 2023 Forester. None on the list feature an off-road feature like X-Mode for all-terrain capability. The Forester offers excellent outward visibility, has a Boxer engine that sits low in the chassis for improved driving dynamics and balance, and no model has scored more best picks from Consumer Reports.
What is the price of the 2023 Forester?
All 2023 Forester trim levels increased by $550 in price, including destination and delivery. Forester comes in six trim levels; The Base Forester starts at $27,620, Premium ($30,620), Sport ($32,190), Limited ($34,300), Wilderness ($35,245), and Touring ($37,720). Pricing includes dealer fees ($1,225).
What is the Forester fuel mileage?
The 2023 Forester gets an EPA-estimated 26/33 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. The EPA rated the new Forester Wilderness with an estimated 25/28 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg.

The Forester compact SUV earned the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Forester comes standard with the brand's EyeSight driver-assist system. The 2023 Outback Wilderness gets an estimated 21/26 city/highway mpg and 23 combined mpg.
