Subaru announces pricing on the upgraded 2017 BRZ sports coupe. The new upgrades and small price increase equals added value.
The refreshed 2017 Subaru BRZ gets a small price increase and a number of upgrades for the new model year. With the increased performance, the sports coupe is a better value than the outgoing model. Those upgrades include improved handling, increased performance, enhanced exterior styling and new convenience features. Subaru says their original mission was to offer enthusiasts a pure sports car with an unmatched driving experience. The BRZ does accomplish that.
The 2017 BRZ Premium trim model increases just $100 from the outgoing model. It’s priced from $25,495. The Subaru BRZ Limited with the manual 6-speed gearbox is priced at $27,645, up from $27,395 for the 2016 model. BRZ Limited with automatic transmission is priced at $28,745.
BRZ gets performance upgrades
The BRZ’s 2.0-liter engine remains naturally aspirated. There’s no turbo model for 2017, but the engine gets internal upgrades and improved power. The BRZ powerplant gets several internal updates for friction reduction including new valves, camshaft and cylinder heads. Accompanied with a new aluminum intake manifold and redesigned exhaust manifold for increased air flow, the engine output in models with the 6-speed manual transmission is increased to 205hp and 156 lb-ft of torque. Subaru says acceleration will improve on 6-speed manual models with a new lower final drive ratio from 4.1 to 4.3:1. It’s mated with the standard Torsen limited-slip differential.

Subaru engineers improved responsiveness, stability and comfort by updating the coil springs and dampers as well as BRZ getting a larger rear stabilizer bar. Subaru added reinforcements to the chassis and strut tower braces, transmission cross-member plate and the rear wheel housings to increase BRZ’s rigidity. The stability control system thresholds are raised to further improve handing. Subaru says the results are dramatic enough, they changed the name of “Sport” mode to “Track”. The Performance Package priced at $1,195
The biggest performance improvement comes from the new BRZ Performance Package. It’s available on Limited trim with the 6-speed gearbox. It includes Brembo calipers and larger rotors on both front and rear brakes for better stopping power. Subaru says the advanced braking system gives BRZ a significant boost in stopping power, fade resistance, and pedal feel. The package also includes SACHS Performance shock absorbers on all four corners for improved ride and corning stability. Also included in the package are special 17-in x 7.5-in black aluminum alloy wheels.
The limited edition Series.Yellow BRZ is priced at $29,695
The BRZ Series.Yellow will be limited to just 500 units. In addition to the Performance Package, inside it gets black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting yellow stitching throughout the interior. This comes on the seats, door and dash panels, steering wheel, knee pads and shifter boot. The front seatbacks are embroidered with a yellow BRZ logo. It also features carpeted floor mats with yellow stitching and a silver embroidered BRZ logo.
The refreshed 2017 Subaru BRZ sports coupe is a better value for sports car enthusiasts. For a modest price increase, it offers improved handling, increased performance, enhanced exterior styling and new convenience features. The 2017 BRZ will begin arriving in US showrooms in September 2016.
