The 6 Most-Asked, Burning Questions By New Subaru Owners With Answers

Here are six of the most asked questions by new owners of the Subaru Outback, Crosstrek, Forester, and other new models with the new 11.6-inch touchscreen display. We will provide the answers to your most burning questions.

As the new Outback, Crosstrek, Forester, and other new Subaru models get more technologically advanced, customers have more questions about their new model's capabilities and settings. It takes the fun out of buying a new vehicle. But when you know the answers, you'll love your new Subaru even more.

Customers' most burning questions involve the settings and controls on your Subaru vehicle with its new 11.6-inch touchscreen display. Thanks to Alex Prestigiacomo, Subaru insider, for providing some of the information in this article.

1. Can you check the mileage and range of miles before your Subaru vehicle runs out of gas?

Of course, all Subaru models have the analog gas gauge, but it does not show how many miles once the tank is empty. There are two ways to see the exact miles left until your tank is empty.

1. On the left side of the steering wheel, you can scroll up or down, and it changes the center display, and you'll find the range.

2. In the settings icon on the touchscreen, you will see "Meter Screen." Click on it, and you can change what is displayed on the center display. Change it from Eco Gauge to Gas Range setting. This setting will always show your fuel until your vehicle's gas tank is empty.

2. How do you shut off the warning tone for the lane departure feature that comes on when you get too close to the center line or right or left side lane marker?

1. Go into settings on the touchscreen and click on the car icon in the lower left of the screen. Click on More Settings, and then you can adjust the warning volume. You can choose Minimum, Mid, or Max settings.

2. If you want to turn off the warning tone completely, go back to the car icon, click on Driving Assistance, on the lane departure setting, and under the Warning Buzzer Only, click on Off.

3. What is Subaru Starlink, and how does it work?

Subaru's Starlink uses a satellite to know if you are involved in an accident or need roadside assistance on demand. You can click on the SOS button on the console above the windshield. The "I" button is for general information.

If you are in an accident, a live person will come on and ask if you need assistance. If you do not respond, Subaru will call the first emergency responders to the scene. Subaru provides the first three years free of charge. After that, you can upgrade and purchase a subscription.

4. How do you change the information on the top section of the touchscreen?

To change the information, click on the errors left or right, and it will scroll through your different options. You can choose which Widget you want. This new option is available on 2023 and 2024 models. Tap the individual Widget to see and change your options.

5. How do you change the brightness setting on the dash gauge cluster and touchscreen display?

The default setting is on the brightest display. To change it, there is a dial on the driver's left below the steering wheel on the lower dash. You can scroll up or down to adjust the brightness when driving at night.

The brightness will automatically dim when your lights turn to the Auto setting. The dial cannot be set between the dots on the lowest setting but must be auto-dimmed on another setting.

6. How do I adjust the pre-set location of my apps on the touchscreen?

You hold your finger on the app you want to move and then drag it to the page or position you want on the screen. And then tap the home button to lock and save your change.

Your turn.

For 5 years I sold Subarus and was also a delivery specialist. No customer should leave a dealership without knowing these simple essentials. Mine didn't.

Our sales person went over a ton of things but jot a lotvof it stuck -information overload. Probably the 3 hour drive on a dark, cold December night in a new car didnt help with retention. 🙂

How do you turn off the driver monitoring system permanently. I know you can turn it off after startup, but it only last for that drive then is re-enabled.
