There is an old Subaru model that is getting a new redesign. Subaru says it's a legendary and iconic model. Meet the all-new 2025 Subaru Forester.

Subaru's new President and CEO, Atsushi Osaki, revealed the all-new sixth-generation 2025 Subaru Forester in Los Angeles today. Here are the official Forester images and details about the remodeled compact SUV.

You have likely already seen images of the all-new 2025 Subaru Forester compact SUV. The new Forester was leaked long before today. I covered the new Forester leaked photos last week before the reveal.

Despite the leak, Subaru only has one legendary and iconic model, the top-selling Forester. Subaru says the Forester is a strategic global vehicle. Here is the all-new 2025 Forester that customers and Subaru of America retailers have waited an extra year for.

What's new for the 2025 Forester?

The 2025 Subaru Forester compact SUV gets a redesign from the ground up. Here are the new Forester upgrades at a glance:

  • Sleek, fresh, contemporary interior and exterior design
  • Advanced EyeSight Driver Assist Technology standard on all trims
  • Improved dynamic performance and ride quality from a 10% stiffer chassis
  • Available 11.6-inch Subaru Starlink Multimedia system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto™ available
  • The debut of kick sensor-activated Hands-Free Power Rear Gate

A new Subaru Forester Hybrid trim is coming.

The big news is Atsushi Osaki said the Subaru Forester will get a new Hybrid powertrain for the 2026 model year coming in the spring of 2025. He also said an electric Forester "will follow quickly." Stay tuned.

Where is the 2025 Forester Wilderness?

Another significant development revolving around the all-new Forester is the lack of a 2025 Forester Wilderness trim level. The 2025 Forester will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring trim levels. Subaru will likely stay with the 2024 Forester Wilderness for at least one more year. Subaru of America did not indicate when the new Forester Wilderness would arrive.

What's new on the outside of the 2025 Forester?

The front of the vehicle gets a new grille and compact LED headlights. The all-new fascia also debuts the updated Subaru star cluster emblem. Front, side, and rear under-guards are standard with color finish according to trim level. Subaru says the steep rear glass offers increased cargo capacity.

The 2024 Forester base trim had 74.2 cubic feet of cargo space. With both seatbacks down, the 2025 Forester cargo area offers 74.4 cubic feet of usable space.

Subaru says, "Several functional aerodynamic improvements enhance the Forester's performance and stability. An air outlet at the trailing edge of the front wheel opening allows air to exit from the wheel well more freely, contributing to reduced lift on the front tires and improved driving stability."

The Subaru Global Platform for the 2025 Forester has been enhanced with 10% stiffer torsional rigidity. A full inner frame construction with more robust welding techniques and additional structural adhesive (approximately 26.2 feet to 88.5 feet) contribute to better body rigidity and lighter weight. Subaru says, "These updates deliver improved dynamic performance, a smoother ride, and a quieter cabin."

What's new on the inside of the 2025 Forester?

Subaru says the front seats feature slimmed-down shoulder areas for better visibility and access to the rear seats. The all-new Forester has a quieter and more comfortable cabin, including approximately a 39% reduction in the rate of noise attenuation from the roof panel.

For the first time, the Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is available for Forester.

The cargo area offers 74.4 cubic feet of usable space with both seatbacks down. The wide rear gate opening with low liftover height allows easy loading and unloading. Standard roof rails add more cargo-carrying options for outdoor enthusiasts.

Available for the first time on a Subaru model, a new kick sensor-activated Hands-Free Power Rear Gate enables owners to open and close the rear gate automatically simply by placing their foot under the back bumper cover.

What's new under the hood of the 2025 Forester?

All 2025 Forester trim levels come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine delivering 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. That is two less horsepower and two more lb-ft of torque than the 2024 Forester. Standard on all Forester models is a Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) "with smoother and quieter performance," says Subaru.

What is the upgraded safety on the 2025 Forester?

Standard on all 2025 Forester models is the latest EyeSight Driver Assist Technology system. "The newest version of the EyeSight system operates more smoothly, quickly, and under a greater range of conditions than prior versions."

These improvements are thanks to a broader field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster. EyeSight can identify cyclists and pedestrians at intersections sooner and, when necessary, alert the driver and apply brakes to avoid collisions. Additional active safety features are available for Forester, including Reverse Automatic Braking and Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

Emergency Stop Assist activates for the first time on a Subaru if the driver becomes unresponsive to warnings while using Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control. The new standard safety feature will stop the vehicle, activate the hazard lights, and unlock the doors.

An available Surround View Monitor offers a 360-degree overhead view of the vehicle and its surroundings for enhanced all-around situational awareness while parking. The system combines images from four vehicle cameras to create a single image with a bird's-eye view of the area around the entire vehicle.

When will customers be able to buy the 2025 Forester?

Subaru says the 2025 Forester will have an on-sale date in the U.S. in spring 2024.

What is the price of the 2025 Forester?

Pricing for the all-new 2025 Subaru Forester will be announced closer to its dealer launch in the U.S. market.

Better colors: Subaru should offer more and/or better colors for all its models (so should other brands). Black, white, and silvers/grays are boring, boring, boring. Subaru rarely offers more colorful options; even when they do, the colors are usually dull and grayed-down. The "sky blue" metallic on the 2012 was subtle but nice, and some of the colors on the "sports-car" models were good, but not everyone wants or can use a sports car. Vibrant colors would set the Subie apart from other makers who are also mired in dull, lifeless color.

In the video, the images for the Sport and the Touring editions need to be reversed to coordinate with the narration. When the voiceover is discussing the Sport interior (tu-tone), it shows the Touring interior, and when the voiceover is addressing the Touring interior (solid), it displays the Sport interior.

Just picked up my new 2025 Subaru Forester Touring.

The Surround View Monitor which is standard of the 2025 Forester Touring has a serious flaw. The new mirror doesn't have the normal Homelink buttons on it. Nor can you select Homelink as an option to program in a set of soft buttons.

For some inconceivable reason Subaru eliminated Homelink from the Touring trim level! Frankly the 360 Surround view isn't really useful. Subaru traded a good system [the auto dimming interior mirror with Homelink for a shiny bobble.

Looking at the comment from other 2025 Subaru Forester Touring others, not of us are pleased. So far Subaru has had not comment of a fix for this serious flaw.
