The 2022 Subaru Outback is not slowing down and remains the top model in Subaru of America's all-wheel-drive lineup. Check out the results for June and the first six months of 2022.
Subaru has created a niche market with the SUV-alternative 2022 Outback and is doing what no other automaker has been able to duplicate. Whether or not the Outback is a wagon or crossover is up for debate. The Subaru Outback is a lifted wagon with a "go-anywhere" attitude, and it continues to impress.
Subaru Outback continues to lead the lineup
In June, the 2022 Subaru Outback remains the top performer in the lineup with 13,135 sales even though sales dropped 19.9 percent compared with June 2021 (16,394). The Outback is also the number one selling model in the first six months, with 77,341 midsize SUVs delivered to customers. Outback is down 11.7 percent year to date.
What sets the Outback apart?
The 2022 Subaru Outback midsize SUV rides higher with extra ground clearance (8.7-inches) than most family haulers. The rugged Outback Wilderness trim level comes with 9.4-inches of deep sand, mud, or snow-clearing clearance, and it also comes standard with Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive.
The Onyx Edition and Wilderness also have a new dual-function X-Mode for added off-pavement capabilities. The new system has settings for Snow and Dirt mode to the new Deep Snow/Deep Mud Mode and is best for sand where traction is compromised.
What is the price of the 2022 Outback?
The 2022 Outback comes in eight trim levels; the base trim is priced from $28,820, Premium ($31,020), Limited ($35,470), Touring ($39,370), Onyx Edition XT ($37,020), new for 2022, Outback Wilderness ($38,870), Limited XT ($39,870), and Touring XT ($41,820). Pricing includes $1,175 destination and delivery fees.
What is the Outback fuel mileage?
The EPA fuel mileage rating of the 2022 Outback XT 2.4-liter turbo is 23/30 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg. The estimated fuel economy of the standard 2.5-liter engine is 26/33 mpg city/highway and 29 combined mpg. The new 2022 Outback Wilderness gets an EPA-estimated 22/26 city/highway mpg and 24 combined mpg.
What's next for the 2023 Subaru Outback?
Customers may want to wait for the newly-upgraded 2023 Outback. The Outback midsize SUV gets new updates with a redesigned front fascia, the latest version of EyeSight safety technology, and a new wide-angle mono camera. Subaru also updated Outback's multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Before the refreshed 2023 Outback arrives, Subaru of America reports the adventure-friendly 2022 Outback is still the top-selling model in its all-wheel-drive lineup in the first six months of the year.
