The 2020 Subaru Ascent and Outback models are continuing where they left off last year. See why they are exceeding customer expectations.

The 2020 Subaru Ascent was an all-new model last year and it continues to impress customers because Subaru of America (SOA) delivered a record number again in January to customers. SOA reports 5,606 Ascent family haulers were moved off dealer lots compared with 4,981 in January 2019. That is a 12.6 percent increase over the same period last year.

Americans have fallen out of love with sedans, are buying more SUVs and Crossovers than ever before, and Ascent showed up at the right time. The 2020 Ascent is the brand’s biggest model and comes with 3-rows of seats for growing families. Subaru couldn’t have come out with the new model at a better time because Subaru needed a bigger vehicle for Outback and Forester owners who need to move up to a bigger vehicle.

Why is the new Ascent a big success for the brand?

Subaru’s all-new Ascent competes with Japanese rivals Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, and American entries like the Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse, Dodge Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. All Ascent trims come standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel-drive and 8.7-inches of ground clearance setting it apart from the competition.

Ascent also comes with 86.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the seats down making it a capable sleeping mobile for weekend get-aways and a cargo-hauling vehicle.

The 2020 Subaru Outback is another model in the brand’s all-wheel-drive lineup that is doing amazingly well. Subaru gave the Outback a complete makeover for the 2020 model change and it’s been a big hit right out of the gate. SOA delivered 11,379 Outback wagons to customers last month compared with 10,941 units the same period last year, a 4.0 percent increase.

The biggest surprise was the Outback wagon, Subaru of America’s number-one selling model was overtaken by the new fifth-generation 2020 Subaru Forester in January. Forester has been gaining ground on the popular Outback and finished 2019 with 180,179 units delivered to customers compared with 181,178 Outback wagons moved off dealer lots.

Meanwhile, the 2020 Subaru Ascent 3-Row family hauler remains the fourth best selling model in the stable and Subaru of America's newest SUV continues to be a success for the brand. It starts the new year with a best-ever month.
