Subaru brings the 2021 Crosstrek with a new 2.5-liter engine and major upgrades across the lineup. Check out the new improvements coming this summer.
If you’ve been waiting for the Subaru Crosstrek to get more power, the wait is over. Crosstrek is the brand’s number three best selling model and it just got better. Subaru of America is bringing the 2021 Crosstrek subcompact SUV with a new Sport trim with a 2.5-liter engine upgrade and major upgrades across the entire Crosstrek lineup.
As is typical for the Japanese automaker, the second-generation Crosstrek in the fourth year gets a refresh, but it gets more with an all-new Crosstrek Sport trim with the 2.5-liter engine upgrade producing 182 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft. of torque. The Crosstrek Limited trim also adds the 2.5-liter engine for 2021. The engine brings 20 percent more power than the 2.0-liter Boxer engine.
Both models will come with an 8-speed manual mode function Lineartronic CVT automatic with steering wheel paddle shifters and Si-Drive. A 6-speed manual will not be available on Sport or Limited trims. Both Sport and Limited trims get an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 27/34 city/highway and 29 combined mpg.
The new 2021 Crosstrek Sport comes with additional improvements and gets Subaru’s dual-function X-Mode that was first introduced on Forester. It brings another level of off-road performance to the already competent all-wheel-drive Crosstrek. Sport also adds exterior trim elements that include unique wheel arch moldings, special 17-inch alloy wheels with a dark gray finish, and a gunmetal finish for the front grille, side mirrors, and badges.
The Sport trim interior will feature StarTex upholstery (a lightweight, urethane material) with yellow stitching on the seats, simulated leather door trim panel armrests, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift boot, multifunction display visor, center console storage box lid, and floormats.
Other Sport interior upgrades over the standard model include gunmetal and simulated carbon-fiber interior trim accents, a combination meter with color LCD and yellow metallic finish trim rings, and a high-power LED rear gate light. The new Sport is available in seven exterior colors including a new Plasma Yellow Pearl and Horizon Blue Pearl.
If you don’t want more power, the 2021 Crosstrek still offers the 2.0-liter engine, a 6-speed manual-shift and all CVT equipped models, including the new Sport, come standard with EyeSight driver assist safety technology and a new advanced adaptive cruise control with lane-centering function.
All Crosstrek trims come with a redesigned front bumper with new-design fog light insert covers (Base trim) or fog light covers on all other trims, plus a new-design front grille, with details specific to each trim. The Rear Seat Reminder is another new Crosstrek feature and comes on all models with a CVT.
The significantly upgraded 2021 Subaru Crosstrek will arrive in the U.S. late summer. Pricing will be announced closer to the dealer launch.
