Are you looking for the safest vehicle on the road? The all-new Subaru Crosstrek crossover and Impreza compact have both achieved the highest score ever for safety in Japan.
Consumers looking for the safest small vehicles on the road should check out these two new-generation Subaru vehicles. The all-new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek crossover and 2017 Impreza compact have won the 2016-2017 Grand Prix Safety Award. Why is this so significant? Both Subaru vehicles have achieved the highest score ever for safety in the newest Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) crash safety evaluation tests.
The Subaru vehicles win the JNCAP five star rated vehicle award and both scored 199.7 points. This is a new record achieved by any vehicle in three years since the more stringent JNCAP safety testing has been conducted in Japan.
How did the two Subaru vehicles do it?
Subaru spent big money ($1 Billion dollars) developing their new Global Platform (SGP) that will underpin every new-generation model. The 2017 Impreza was the first to get it, and now the new 2018 Crosstrek rides on the new architecture. The new SGP underpinning the new Crosstrek and Impreza improves crash energy absorption by 40 percent over present models keeping occupants safer in the event of a crash.
Both Subaru vehicles can even survive an impact by an SUV weighting 2.5 tons at 66 mph. After an impact, the vehicle’s A and B-pillars will retain their integrity protecting the occupants. The platform it rides on now give the new Crosstrek and Impreza, the highest crash safety ratings ever in their segments.
JNCAP created the new award, (2016-2017 Grand Prix Award) to recognize a vehicle which adopts a new important safety feature. The two models also received the special award for having a pedestrian protection airbag as standard equipment.
The Subaru Corporation spent $1 Billion on developing their latest safety technology, and it’s paying off big on the new-generation 2018 Subaru Crosstrek crossover and Impreza compact. They both ride on the new Subaru Global Platform that gives the two vehicles the highest safety score ever in Japan.
