There are new details on the 2016 Subaru Levorg that will launch in Australia. Will it be a performance model?
Details have surfaced about the new 2016 Subaru Levorg coming to Australia this summer. Reports from The Motor Report say the sports tourer will be powered by the 2.0-liter WRX powerplant. This will make the Australia model a true performance wagon. In Japan and the UK, the only other markets to get the new wagon, Levorg gets the smaller 1.6-liter turbo engine.
Subaru Australia's Managing Director, Nick Senior, said, "It will appeal to those fourth generation Liberty GT buyers who have been starved of a logical successor but we believe it will also attract a much wider audience because of its performance, its versatility, its refinement and its high level of standard equipment.”
2.0-liter powerplant specs
The Aussie 2.0-liter turbo Levorg engine will produce 197kW (264hp) and 350Nm (258 lb ft of torque) which is close to the U.S. spec WRX’s 268hp and 258 lb. ft. making it a true performance sports tourer. The only downside to the model? It will only be available with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic. No 6-speed manual will be offered in the Australian spec models.
Two Levorg trims offered
The report says, two trims will be offered down under, the Levorg GT and the Levorg GT-S. Exact specs haven’t been released yet but Levorg's government certification documents show the GT will roll on 17-inch alloy wheels while the sportier GT-S will get 18-inch wheels.
The new 2016 Subaru Levorg with the WRX 2.0-liter engine will begin arriving in Australia this summer. You can get more information as it becomes available here. North American performance enthusiasts can only look and not touch the new performance Levorg.
