What are the best winter and AT tires for your Subaru? Check out the Scorpion All Terrain Plus tire for extreme winter weather and off-road use.
The Subaru brand is about building all-wheel-drive vehicles with a “go-anywhere” attitude. You won’t find Subaru Outback, Forester and Crosstrek vehicles sitting in the garage on weekends this winter. Subaru owners actually take their vehicles off-road into the high-country where the snow is deep, and if you have the right tires, the Crosstrek, Outback, and Forester will get you even farther off the beaten path and far away from civilization.
Subaru vehicles come standard with "All Season” tires and your all-wheel-drive vehicle will perform admirably in a variety of temperatures and conditions in the urban environment. But you need the best all-terrain and winter tires with aggressive tread if you are heading into the mountains this winter.
With winter almost here, Subaru owners will head to the mountains for skiing, snowmobiling, and cross-country excursions but what are the best winter tires for your vehicle? Pirelli just launched a new Scorpion All Terrain Plus tire that are perfectly designed for your Subaru Crosstrek, Forester or Outback. This tire is actually designed for more extreme off-road use with a more aggressive design than some other all-terrain tires.
The Scorpion AT Plus tires can be used year-round and feature conical stone ejectors that can prevent small rocks from getting embedded in the tread and potentially result in cuts. The tires’ aggressive tread pattern can allow them to more easily find a foothold on low-grip terrain, and their enhanced upper sidewalls can potentially provide a degree of protection on rocky surfaces.
What if you don’t go off-road?
What if you aren’t going off-road and just need the best winter tire? Pirelli also offers the Scorpion Winter, Scorpion Ice and Snow, and Ice Zero tires. They offer excellent snow traction and are winter-rated. They have the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) certification, indicating that they are service-rated for severe winter conditions.

Make sure you fit your vehicle with four tires that are the same size and of the identical category in order to maintain optimal driving performance. Buying the right “all-terrain” or winter tires can give you instant “bolt on” traction, confidence, and control for extreme winter weather. Pirelli Scorpion All-Terrain Plus tires may be the best year-round all-terrain tires for your Subaru Crosstrek, Outback, and Forester to get you off the beaten path. “When you need to head out into the woods, this tire is designed to make sure you get back out.” Steve Carpino, Senior Design Consultant, Pirelli

One of the many reasons that
One of the many reasons that I love my '16 Forester is its winter capability. However, the standard all-season tires are not good in cold weather - wet or dry. I found that below about 40F they are much more "slippery" on off ramps and in around town cornering. In snow, they just plain stink. I have winter rubber for mine and would strongly suggest a three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) rated tire for winter to anyone with a Subaru. AWD is great, but it does not help you turn or stop in winter conditions.
Awesome. Except they don't
Awesome. Except they don't make a size that fits on the crosstrek. It is so frustrating trying to buy A/T tires for a car that is supposed to go off road- there are none on the market for the stock wheel size.
