Subaru Canada has announced the 2014 BRZ is the top performing car in the lineup for December. It even outperforms the 2014 Forester and XV Crosstrek including in snow conditions.
You wouldn’t think the new 2014 Subaru BRZ would be selling well in cold weather climates. But BRZ sales are way up in Canada. Normally rear-drive sports cars sell best in warm weather climates, but the 2014 BRZ is Canada’s top performing car the Subaru lineup for December. It even outshines the Forester and XV Crosstrek which are the best-selling Subaru models around the world.
But when it comes to individual models, the BRZ, Subaru’s nimble, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, took top honors in December, with sales up 61.1 percent over the same month last year. Subaru reports that BRZ, Forester and XV Crosstrek all outshine their previous December records, with increased sales of 61.1, 51.1 and 19.7 percent respectively. Why did so many Canadians buy the rear-drive BRZ sports coupe in snowy December?
Subaru BRZ is both affordable and fun to drive regardless of the weather. Strap on set of snow tires on the rear wheels, and the BRZ can be fun to drive in the winter also. In spite of its light weight of 2,762 lbs, the BRZ is very well balanced for a two-door rear-drive sports coupe. Canadian drivers can have fun year-round with the two-door sports coupe.
Subaru engineers gave BRZ an “intelligently engineered” quick-ratio steering and finely tuned sport suspension that responds immediately. The two-door coupe tracks right where you turn it and gives feedback that tells the driver exactly what the tires are up to. It also includes Stability Control with available Sport Mode when the driver is on wet or icy streets and needs to "play closer to the limit."
If you’ve ever driven a rear-drive high-performance sports car with lots of power, it can be difficult to control on the snow and ice without the proper training. But BRZ’s 2.0-liter Boxer powerplant comes with 200 horsepower and 151 lb. ft of torque and is ideal for having fun in the snow. A driver who knows how to control the power can have loads of fun with the rear-drive BRZ.
Subaru who is known for their muti-use all-wheel-drive vehicles, took a different path with BRZ. The vision of Subaru engineers was as simple as it was precise, “create a purpose-built sports car that embodies our love of impeccable engineering and our passion for fun behind the wheel.” With the 2014 Subaru BRZ, they succeeded in engineering an affordable sports car that delivers an exhilarating driving experience. Canadians have found out, the BRZ is a great car to drive on dry pavement and snow and ice.
