Should you buy a used model with the shortage of new 2022 Subaru Crosstrek SUVs? See why the Crosstrek is the worst Subaru model to buy used, and one city where they are selling for way over new vehicle prices.

Should you buy a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV or a "lightly used" model with Subaru of America's new car supply shortages and the upside-down used car market? A recent report from iSeeCars reveals that Subaru Crosstrek makes the top twelve models that cost more used than new. Check out the complete information here.

A new report from iSeeCars reveals a well maintained "lightly used" 2020 and 2021 model year Crosstrek costs $3,129 or 10.6 percent more than a new 2022 Subaru Crosstrek in Denver, Colorado.

The data from iSeeCars.com comes from analyzing the asking prices of over 1.5 million new and used cars sold in April 2022. They found the average 1- to 5-year-old used car costs around 1.0 percent less than its new version.

What is a lightly used vehicle?

iSeeCars says a "lightly used" vehicle is defined by using data from the 2020 and 2021 model years with mileage within 20 percent of the average annual mileage defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation; around 13,000 miles. But the Crosstrek is a hot model.

It's not a surprise the Subaru Crosstrek is a highly sought-after all-wheel-drive vehicle near Denver, Colorado. The Mile High City sits at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, and many owners use the small SUV for weekend trips to the high country. It's why this writer lives and plays in Evergreen.

Many Crosstrek vehicles head up I-70 into the foothills with mountain bikes, snowboards, kayaks, and camping gear loaded on top of the subcompact SUV in the winter and summer.

What is the cost of a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?

Subaru of America raised Crosstrek prices by $800 as of April 26, 2022. The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The Base trim is now priced from $24,320, Premium ($25,470), Sport ($28,670), Limited ($30,170) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,520). Prices include destination and delivery fees that increase ($1,175).

Why is the Crosstrek the hottest Subaru model?

Even with the price hikes, the Crosstrek is still an affordable small SUV. The Crosstrek is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts with its standard Symmetrical all-wheel-drive, 8.7-inches of ground clearance, and X-Mode for additional off-road performance.

The Crosstrek is fuel-efficient. With the gas price going up this summer, the Crosstrek Sport and Limited trims with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine get 27/34 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. The 2.0-liter engine gets 28/33 mpg and 30 combined mpg with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

If you live near Denver and have a one-or-two-year-old Subaru Crosstrek, and you don't need it anymore, you could make an extra $3,000 over what you paid for your vehicle. If you are buying a used model, expect to pay well over the price of a new model.
