What does it mean for car shoppers?
All Subaru vehicles received a ‘Superior’ rating in front crash prevention when equipped with the brand’s EyeSight driver assist technology. EyeSight is now standard equipment on all Outback, Forester, Legacy, and Ascent models and on all Crosstrek trims when equipped with the CVT automatic transmission.
EyeSight uses stereo cameras mounted at the top of the windscreen, capturing “live” images of the road ahead. The car recognizes potentially dangerous situations and can alert the driver if they are distracted and help prevent accidents. EyeSight has been proven in independent studies to prevent collisions and reduce impact damage.
You might be asking as we did, why the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is a Top Safety Pick+ winner and the Subaru Crosstrek gas model is rated a Top Safety Pick? It’s all because of the headlights. The Crosstrek Hybrid trim comes standard with LED prosector headlights, while the gas 2.0i base model and Premium trims come with Halogen headlights as standard equipment. The Crosstrek Limited gets LED headlights and gets the “Good” rating required to earn the Top Safety Pick+ award.
The 2020 Subaru Forester improves its safety rating and gets the highest Top Safety Pick+ award after being dinged last year for its headlights. The 2020 Forester now gets an overall “Good” rating for having LED headlights on all trims except Sport.
2020 Subaru Outback, Forester, Crosstrek Hybrid, and Legacy all get Good marks in crashworthiness in the driver side, passenger side, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats. These models also earned a Superior rating in front crash prevention.
Subaru was also voted Best Manufacturer for Safety Features recently in the 2019 Driver Power Survey, and the newly-redesigned Forester is the number two vehicle overall among 100 cars ranked for safety by customers who drive one.
Compact SUV, Subcompact SUV, Wagon, Sedan, and Compact car shoppers interested in safety, have a one-stop-shop with the Subaru brand. The Japanese automaker is tops in the latest 2020 IIHS safety ratings with the 2020 Subaru Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, and Legacy getting the highest marks. They tie with Hyundai as the most prolific Top Safety Pick-awarded brand in the industry.
