Chief Tesla Cybertruck Engineer Interview Is Revealing, “I Never Wanted To Be the Next Elon Musk or Whatever”

How many people want to be someone else, like someone famous? How about Elon Musk or the guy who designed the Tesla Cybertruck? Its designer says he never wanted to be the next Elon Musk. Check out his inspirational story.

How would you like to be the guy that designed the Tesla Cybertruck?

We know we can't be Elon Musk, but how about someone like the guy who designed the Tesla Cybertruck? That would be awesome. Imagine the notoriety and prestige of having your name linked to the best-selling electric truck in the world.

Meet Lars Moravy, the chief engineer and designer of the controversial yet unbelievably successful Tesla Cybertruck. Moravy joined Tesla 14 years ago, starting in chassis design. His Linkedin profile shows that he previously worked at Honda R&D in Ohio.

A report from Automotive News says that Tesla CEO Elon Musk is a towering figure over the world's biggest maker of fully electric vehicles. Still, he relies on a dedicated team of engineers to turn his often-wild ideas into production vehicles ready to conquer new segments.

"I never wanted to be the next Elon Musk or whatever," Moravy said in an online dialogue with the University of California, Berkeley students in 2022. "I just wanted to be the best version of me."

That's some of the best advice I've heard in a long time. Don't try to be like someone else; Be the best version of yourself. 

Not many of us will be the next world leader in technology or the next quarterback to win the Super Bowl, but we can be the best version of ourselves. What could you accomplish if you strive for that? 

Lars Moravy did that and had a blast doing it.

The AN report says Lars Moravy led the engineering team on Musk's craziest idea to date: the stainless steel-clad Cybertruck pickup that employs a variety of cutting-edge innovations, including a 48-volt electrical architecture and steer-by-wire technology for maneuverability. 

The uniqueness of the Cybertruck’s design is inspiring.

The Cybertruck uses aluminum structural castings and rear-wheel steering, and because of its angular shape, it has a giant windshield and an extra-long windshield wiper. Those are just some of the engineering feats needed to bring Musk's vision to life.

But Moravy couldn't do it alone.

In a talk with comedian and car fanatic Jay Leno, Moravy revealed it took a team to pull it off. He shared the success of Cybertruck with thousands of other Tesla employees in the engineering and design departments. 

“They're the best engineers and designers in the world, and it's awesome to show their work in this product," Mora," told Leno, about a month after the Cybertruck was launched in a limited trim with a $100,000 starting price.

The Cybertruck has become the bestselling electric pickup in the U.S. despite its sky-high sticker price. With less expensive versions now on sale, Tesla's dominance in the electric truck segment will likely continue into 2025.

Ford had to stop production of the Ford F-150 Lightning because of slow sales. Ford is now offering its dealers huge incentives to buy the electric Lighting.
