Which Subaru vehicles have the most comfortable front seats? A new ranking from Consumer Reports says the 2023 Subaru Outback is the best in the Midsize SUV again, and the 2023 Subaru Legacy scores the best in the Midsize Sedan category. Check out all eight models.
If you spend a lot of time in your car or SUV, you want comfortable seats. So Consumer Reports (CR) (by subscription) did a study and picked the eight-best vehicles with the most comfortable front seats. Consumer Reports says the Outback and Legacy have the most comfortable seats for a long road trip.
The eight best cars with comfortable front seats
The Kia Soul has the most comfortable front seats among small cars. Subaru Legacy wins the Midsize sedan category, Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the best Luxury Compact Sedan, Audi A8 is the Luxury Midsized/Large Sedan winner, and Mazda CX-50 is the best small SUV. Subaru Outback scores as the best Midsize SUV, Volvo XC60 is the best Luxury Compact SUV, and BMW X5 is the best Luxury Midsized/Large SUV.
Consumer Reports also says the 2023 Subaru Forester is another good choice and the second top pick in the small SUV segment.
What does CR say about the Subaru Outback?
CR says, "Whether opting for the standard 2.5-liter or 2.4-liter turbo engine, we would gravitate toward the Limited trim level for the nicely shaped leather seats, power passenger seat, and rear power gate. The nicely shaped leather seats offer good comfort and support, with a driver's seat with a manual thigh-support extending cushion. In addition, the front door opening is nice and large, and the seat is at a convenient height because this car sits slightly higher than the average sedan."
The 2023 Outback has a higher ride height than other SUVs allowing a better road view from the driver's seat. In addition, it comes with 8.7 inches of ground clearance allowing you to slide in without stepping up, and you won't be dropping down to get in the front seat.
Besides having the most comfortable front seats, the Subaru Outback has a car-like ride, SUV utility, and cargo-carrying ability. In addition, Outback comes with standard all-wheel-drive and X-Mode to get you off the beaten path for long road trips and to get away.
What is the price of the 2023 Outback?
The 2023 Outback now comes in nine trim levels for U.S. customers; the base trim is priced from $29,620, Premium ($31,920), new Onyx Edition with a 2.5-liter engine ($34,720), Limited ($36,520), Touring ($41,070), Outback Wilderness ($39,670), Onyx Edition XT ($39,820), Limited XT ($40,920), and Touring XT ($43,520). Pricing includes $1,225 destination and delivery fees.
What does CR say about the Subaru Legacy?
CR says, "The front seats are covered with a basic cloth in the base and Premium trim. The Premium adds a heated, 10-way power seat, and the Limited steps it up to 14-way adjustments and leather upholstery. Most drivers felt that the cloth seats were comfortable initially but would lose support over a longer ride. We found the tauter leather seats in Limited and higher trims to be more supportive. In addition, large door openings make it easy to get in and out of the front seats."
What is the price of the 2023 Legacy?
The 2023 Legacy sedan now comes in five trim levels. The 2023 midsize sedan starts at $25,415 for the base trim, Premium ($27,715), Limited ($32,465), Sport with a new 2.4-liter turbo engine ($34,915), and Touring XT ($38,715). Destination and delivery fees are included in the pricing above ($1,020).
A recent study by Ketchum's Daily Ride Index found that the average American has seen a 12 percent increase in time behind the wheel per week (from 9 hours and 43 minutes per week to 10 and 50 minutes per week). That's a lot of seat time, and one overlooked feature is how comfortable the front seats are in a car.
CR says the redesigned 2023 Subaru Outback beats an impressive field in the midsize SUV category like Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-9, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, and Chevrolet Traverse. Likewise, the 2023 Subaru Legacy beats an impressive field, including the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
