Forbes rates three Subaru vehicles tops in their 10 Best Crossover SUVs For Snow list.
When it comes to pushing through snow, Subaru is a brand with vehicles that shine when the white stuff gets deep. Forbes came out with their 10 Best Crossover SUVs For Snow and Subaru scores best with the 2018 Subaru Outback, Forester and Crosstrek models from their lineup. Jeep scores two of their vehicles, and Mazda, Volvo, Land Rover and Porsche each score one. Subaru created a niche brand of all-wheel-drive cars nearly 50 years ago they are still dominating today.
It more than just having an all-wheel-drive vehicle. It’s also about ground clearance and this is where these brands come out on top of the rest of the Crossover SUV segment. All these top snow vehicles come with a minimum of 8.5 inches of clearance to get through the deep stuff.
Subaru is known for their Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system perfected on the rally stages where dirt, gravel and snow is the competition. All three of their vehicles that made the cut have 8.7-inches of ground clearance. It’s part of what gives the brand a “go-anywhere” attitude.

Jeep Renegade Trailhawk (8.7 inches), Subaru Outback (8.7 inches), Subaru Forester (8.7 inches), Subaru Crosstrek (8.7 inches), Jeep Cherokee (8.7 inches), Mazda CX-9 (8.8 inches), Volvo XC90 (9.4 inches), Land Rover Range Rover Velar SE (9.8 inches), Porsche Cayenne (8.5 inches).
Subaru with their niche all-wheel-drive lineup, and Jeep the other brand that is known for their aggressive off-road vehicles, sit up higher and are built for off-road use. Subaru offers AWD on every one of their vehicles in the lineup, except for the rear-drive BRZ sports coupe. The 2018 Subaru Outback, Forester and Crosstrek excel better than most Crossover SUVs on the market when it comes to plowing through the deep white stuff. They are also the most affordable AWD vehicles on the market.
