Fuji Heavy is getting ready to put more focus on building an improved next-generation Subaru WRX STI. How do we know?
Fuji Heavy (FHI), the manufacturer of the Subaru WRX STI is serious about focusing on building an improved performance car. Here’s how we know. They just reached an agreement to transfer manufacturing rights of their small engine division over to Yamaha USA. Beginning at the end of September 2017, FHI transfers all of their technological assets of selected multi-purpose engines over to Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S.A, headquartered in California. What does it mean for consumers?
All this happens at the beginning of October, 2017 when the transfer takes place. Up until now, FHI’s small engine division built the engines that are used in large generators and large lawn mowing machinery. Now FHI steps aside, and will put more focus and engineering resources on building an improved WRX STI.
What will it mean for performance enthusiasts?
Fuji Heavy Industries, Inc. will officially change their name to Subaru Corporation in April 2017. This coincides with the 100 year anniversary of the company. They started as an airplane manufacturer in Japan, now they begin focusing most of their attention on building a better Subaru WRX STI performance car, along with their niche brand of all-wheel-drive vehicles like the Forester, Outback and Crosstrek multi-purpose vehicles.
In addition to a new STI, Subaru will also be coming out with new products for consumers like a new 3-Row Crossover for American families. It won’t be sold anywhere else around the globe. Also coming, with be a new Crosstrek plug-in hybrid in 2018. They will likely be developing all-electric technology for their entire lineup including the WRX STI in the future. Performance enthusiasts can expect, new vehicles and new technology coming from the new Subaru Corporation. A new-generation Subaru WRX STI riding on the new Global Platform should be here in late 2018. Stay tuned.
