David Higgins had a special Rally America season by going undefeated. Now he gets a chance to go back home to Rally GB in a special 2015 Subaru WRX STI.
David Higgins and Craig Drew are going home to run the 2015 Subaru WRX STI in the Rally GB November 12-15. SRT USA will be oversee the new WRX STI that will sport a special livery honoring Subaru rally legend Colin McRae. This year marks a special anniversary for Subaru, when twenty years ago, Colin McRae won Rally GB to claim the first WRC title for the brand.
To honor the late Colin McRae, Subaru will feature a throwback livery on the 2015 WRX STI rally car in iconic WR blue and yellow with gold wheels. Subaru Rally Team USA won’t be able to run the VT15r Open Class spec 2015 WRX STI that won the Rally America Championship this season due to the car being too far out of FIA World Rally Championship regulations. Subaru sourced a 2015 Subaru WRX STI NR4 from British motorsport preparation specialist JRM for the event.
SRT USA will go over to the UK to manage the team and will oversee his entry and get the STI ready for Wales Rally GB next month. This is the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship and Subaru wants to use the race to thank David Higgins and Craig Drew for winning five consecutive Rally America titles in a row for the brand. They will also pay tribute to Colin McRae and their rally heritage.
Subaru will feature the special throwback livery on the 2015 WRX STI rally car to end a very special season. Rob Weir, Motorsports Marketing Manager, Subaru of America says, “Subaru’s rally spirit has remained alive in different corners of the World since that first big win with Colin in 1995. It was the spark that made rally so popular not only for Subaru but across the world for the sport. We’re excited to do this for Colin, David, and especially the fans.”
