The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek just pulled off a first-ever for the automaker. Check out what the impressive subcompact has done in the first three months of the year.
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek has an impressive run and just pulled off a first-ever for Subaru of America (SOA). The Crosstrek subcompact SUV is now the number-one overall selling model in the all-wheel-drive lineup, passing the 2022 Forester compact SUV and the 2022 Outback midsize SUV. Up until now, the Forester has been the top-selling model in SOA’s all-wheel-drive lineup.
In the first three months of the year, Subaru retailers have delivered 37,463 subcompact SUVs to customers compared with the number two Outback with 32,972 sales and Forester with 31,358 sales for the first quarter.

It’s all because of the new model shortages and supply chain issues, as Subaru retailers in the U.S. can’t get many Forester SUVs. In March, the popular compact SUV sales dropped 68.7 percent, with just 6,572 models delivered to customers.
The Forester is in high demand, and Subaru had to shut off orders for the redesigned Forester for three weeks since March 7th, and it’s why the compact SUV had such low sales performance in March. Subaru retailers could sell a lot more refreshed 2022 Forester and new Forester Wilderness if they could get them.

The Crosstrek stays hot during inventory issues
Even with the new model shortages, Subaru of America retailers delivered 13,460 Crosstrek subcompact SUVs to customers in March compared with 14,065 in March 2021, a decline of 4.3 percent. Subaru of America also had to shut off orders for the hot Crosstrek for two weeks to allow the Japanese automaker to catch up with orders for the hot model in North America.
What sets the Crosstrek apart?
The Crosstrek is in high demand because it’s affordable, fuel-efficient, offers standard all-wheel-drive, 8.7-inches of ground clearance, X-Mode for off-pavement, all-weather capability, and gets top safety scores.
What is the price of the 2022 Crosstrek?
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim has an MSRP of $23,570, Premium ($24,720), Sport ($27,920), Limited ($29,420) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,895). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,125).
What is the Crosstrek fuel mileage?
The Subaru Crosstrek Sport and Limited trim levels use direct injection on its new 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine and get 27/34 city/highway mpg and 29 combined mpg. The standard 2.0-liter engine gets 28/33 mpg and 30 combined mpg with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) automatic, contributing to better mileage.
What are Crosstrek’s safety scores?
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek was just rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and is now a Top Safety Pick winner for 11 consecutive years. The 2022 Crosstrek Hybrid earns the highest Top Safety Pick + award.
Ahead of a complete remodel in 2023, the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV sales are not slowing down. The hot model just passed the Forester to claim the number one selling title in the lineup. Check out what’s next for the Crosstrek in the link below.
