A new report from the Canadian Black Book gives the new Subaru Crosstrek the top retained value award. See what it means for small SUV shoppers.
Is the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek a good value for small SUV shoppers? According to the Canadian Black Book (CBB), the Crosstrek wins the best-retained value award for 2021 in the Main Compact/Subcompact SUV category. The refreshed 2022 Subaru Crosstrek wins the number one spot ahead of the number two Honda CR-V and number three, Toyota RAV4.
The Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Awards pick the top vehicles that retain the highest percentage of their original MSRP after four years. For November 2021, the awards program analyzed the model year 2018 cars, trucks, and SUVs in 19 categories.
"Our strategic planning always includes providing long-lasting value to our customers," said Subaru Canada chairman, president, and CEO Yasushi Enami. "Awards like these give us confidence that our goals are being achieved."
In the Main Car category, the Subaru Impreza finishes second behind the Honda Civic and ahead of the Honda Accord, which finished third.
What does the award mean for small SUV shoppers?
This is valuable information for small SUV shoppers, given that depreciation (loss of value) is typically your primary expense during ownership. The CBB award for Subaru Crosstrek and Impreza lets consumers know that the vehicles will retain their value better than other models.
This can make the most significant difference when you trade in your vehicle after 3-5 years. You'll get more for your trade-in than other carmakers' vehicles. A good example is the value of a two-or-three-year-old Subaru Crosstrek. In today's used car environment, a used Crosstrek costs more than a new model. Find out why here.
If you've tried to purchase a previously owned Crosstrek, you know this is true. This is especially true if you live in the Northeast, Rocky Mountains, or Pacific Northwest, where the Subaru brand is most popular.
KBB says Crosstrek is a segment winner
According to Kelly Blue Book's (KBB) 2021 Best Resale Value Awards, the Subaru Crosstrek also scores the best Subcompact SUV. Read the full report here.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim is priced from $23,570, Premium ($24,720), Sport ($27,920), Limited ($29,420) and Crosstrek Hybrid ($37,895). Prices include destination and delivery fees that increase +$75 ($1,125).
The new CBB and KBB awards reveal the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek retains its value better than all other subcompact SUVs. The 2022 Subaru Impreza is a close second. Both models are a good value for a compact car and small SUV shopper.
