The 2020 Subaru WRX and STI need a complete remodel, but they are still in high demand. See how they outperform all other compact sports cars.
The current generation 2020 Subaru WRX and STI performance car need a complete remodel, but they are still outselling all other compact sports cars in North America this year. The next-generation 2022 WRX and STI won’t arrive until 2021 and 2022, respectively, but performance enthusiasts aren’t waiting.
A recent report from iSeeCars reveals the sport-tuned Subaru WRX and performance-tuned STI are in high demand and are the fastest-selling new sports cars. They take just 69.8 days to sell when the average sports car takes 107.2 days to move off the dealer’s lot.
The WRX and STI are also the fastest-selling used cars. The WRX and STI take 51.5 days to move off dealer lots while the average used sports car takes 70.4 days to sell.
How does the Subaru WRX and STI compare in sales with all other compact models? In the last twelve months, the WRX and STI have outperformed all other compact sports cars in North America, including the new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette.
Subaru of America delivered 21,838 WRX and STI performance models to customers from August 2019 through July 2020. During the same time period, the WRX and STI outsold the 2019 and all-new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette by 3,850 units with 17,988 sales.
In the compact sports car segment, Subaru is winning big. Hyundai delivered 8,327 Veloster models, BMW 2 Series (8,015), Mazda MX-5 Miata (7,753), Infiniti Q60 (5,043), Lexus RC (4,591), Volkswagen Golf R (4,223 - 2019), Toyota 86 (3,398), Toyota Supra (2,884), Fiat 124 Spider, (2,646), Nissan 370Z (2,384), Subaru BRZ, (2,334), and Porsche Taycan (130.)
Honda does not split out the Civic Type R from regular Civic sales, so we can’t provide specific numbers. A source close to Honda said in 2018 Honda sold 4,100 Civic Type R, performance models. The Subaru WRX and STI were also the best selling sports car in 2019.
With a starting MSRP of $28,395, including destination, the WRX is arguably the best performance value. You can buy a higher performance STI for $37,895, including all fees and offers more fun for the money.
The sport-tuned 2020 Subaru WRX and performance-tuned WRX STI need a complete remodel, but the two performance sedans are in high demand and the best-selling compact sports car in America.

Outsold the Corvette because
Outsold the Corvette because they are still ramping up production of the Corvette and can't make enough. Meaningless stat.
How can you even remotely
How can you even remotely compare the 2? Just a click bait article. It'd be better off comparing it to a Miata.
Corvette is compared all the
Corvette is compared all the time to more expensive cars as well, mostly for what you get for the money. Same point here...
Yes, the Corvette is compared
Yes, the Corvette is compared with more expensive cars but only in terms of quality. You're never going to hear any legitimate reviewer use Corvette car sales volumes as some sort of measuring stick against Ferrari car sales volumes. Ferrari only sells about 2K-4K cars a year in the US. Chevy sells that many Corvette's in month but only because Corvette's are a fraction of the cost of Ferrari's.
Don't car magazines all the
Don't car magazines all the time compare what you get for a $60k Vette to supercars even though they are even further apart in price than the WRX and Vette? So both comparisons have some absurdity to them, but both make interesting points regarding what you get for your money.
Yes, the Corvette gets
Yes, the Corvette gets compared with supercars all the time...but only in terms of performance and quality. NEVER will you see in any of those comparisons the reviewer use the number of Corvettes SOLD as a measurement of how much better the Corvette is over that supercar. THAT is what the author is doing here which everyone is objecting too.
Corvette? Who wants a
Corvette? Who wants a corvette when you could get a wrx STi and carry your friends drive in the snow and still beat a corvette at the stop light anytime!
LOL...that's funny. A Suburu
LOL...that's funny. A Suburu WRX STi cannot do 0-60 in sub 3.0 seconds.
How can you write an unbiased
How can you write an unbiased report on Subaru if you are the founder of the Subaru report?
Apples to oranges comparison.
Apples to oranges comparison.
The WRX is great car. But put it on the track at Daytona, Watkins Glen or VIR Track: Corvette wins.
Interior: Corvette wins
Style: Corvette wins
Price: WRX wins
Now put snow or rain or sand
Now put snow or rain or sand on those tracks and subby wins easily.
Put the vette on a loose
Put the vette on a loose surface or even poor surface and run it against a tuned STI…. Bye bye vette. STI will also outhandle it all day long. Hard to compare them…. They are both great cars meant for completely different applications.
I wonder which car had better
I wonder which car had better sales...the 38K car or the 59K car???? Hmmm...I'm going to have to do a lot of research to figure this one out.
So...a four door sedan that
So...a four door sedan that currently has a heavy manufacturer incentive outsold a two door, specialized sports coupe that costs more than twice of the base MSRP of the sedan?
Leaving alone that the sales figures include both the WRX and STI models. And that production is currently limited on the Corvette?
And somehow you still managed to squeeze out a nine paragraph article on this without any relevant commentary on said sales numbers. TorqueNews is an absolute joke of a website and this writer embodies everything wrong with "Click Bait" culture.
this is by far the most
this is by far the most removed article of them all. Of course the Subaru is gonna out sell the better. It is literally half the cost. That is just simply economics. I honestly cannot believe the people you write for actually pay you a salary. But in the words of a auto journalist, " oh I hear the throb of a turbo flat 4. A song which all over the world heralds the arrival of a moron"
