How The New Subaru Forester Keeps Your Backup Camera Lens Clear Of Debris

The most common problem with any backup camera is keeping the lens clean. See how the new 2019 Subaru Forester comes with a built-in rear camera lens cleaner.

When you are heading on the highway commuting in the winter, and there is snow and ice, or if you are on a dirt road on the way to the lake, your backup camera gets dirty and you can’t see when you go to back up. What can you do besides get out and wipe it off? The new 2019 Subaru Forester is all about safety and it comes with a backup camera lens cleaner you may not know about.

Subaru also has a nifty accessory for the Crosstrek and Impreza you can get from the dealer. We aren’t sure why they don’t offer it on all its all-wheel-drive vehicles in the stable. We found the Subaru backup camera cleaner accessory on Subaru Europe’s YouTube channel and it’s the perfect way to keep your backup camera clear of dirt, mud, and grime.

It’s a common problem on all cars especially in the winter if you live in a climate where you get ice and snow build up on the rear camera lens. You put the car in reverse, look at the rearview monitor and you can’t see anything. With this rear camera cleaner, you just hit the rear wiper washer, and it puts out a spray that cleans the lens for you.

You may not know that the all-new fifth-generation 2019 Subaru Forester comes with a built-in backup camera lens cleaner. The newly-redesigned Subaru Forester's rear hatch is designed in such a way that when washer fluid is used for the rear window, it travels over the backup camera lens, removing dirt and debris and making the rearview monitor usable.

This is a sweet design Subaru engineers built into the new 2019 Forester compact SUV. Subaru doesn’t list it as a standard feature on the newly-redesigned Forester but some dealers list it in their feature list on the new compact SUV. Once the new-generation 2020 Subaru Outback arrives, we’ll see if it also has the nifty backup camera lens cleaning effect when you hit the rear window washer.

The 2020 Subaru Forester model change will arrive this fall for customers with a few new upgrades. It’s coming with a new Rear Seat Reminder for customers. Check back for our full review when it arrives.

Not sure I want the alcohol based windshield washer solution getting all over the paint of my back bumper, which could lead to paint damage.

This is worth an entire article ? Slow day in the office i guess. Snow and ice doesn't build up on it. Yes it gets dirty once in a while but not nearly as often as this article suggests. I live in ice and snow. This winter we got hammered. Not an issue.

Great idea on the lens cleaner. But where's the "Surround Cameras"??? 2019/2020 and no surround cameras? I love my wife's surround cameras in her Chevy Bolt. Makes parking along a curb or any spot a breeze. Subaru...if you reading this....please add surround cameras on your future models. I will pay extra for it ....to prevent curb rash on my wheels!....I have a 2018 3.6R now and was sooo dissapointed that it had no surround cameras. I had to install an after market side and front left parking cameras. Looks hokey with all the wiring but it works damn well making me not scratch my front wheels for those head in parking. I know you guys have these features in other parts of the world...why can't you give it to us in North America???...at least as an option.
