Subaru is collaborating with IBM to build an advanced Driver Assist System. Can they achieve zero accidents?
If Subaru and IBM can do it, they will design an advanced safety system using EyeSight to achieve safety performance for zero accidents in their automobiles. Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), maker of Subaru cars has just announced they are partnering with IBM on this new project. The system could show up on the next-generation Subaru Forester, Outback and Crosstrek vehicles.
What will the two companies be doing?
FHI and IBM Japan have agreed to team up and work towards the development of a data analytics system for testing images from the advanced safety system including output from Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system. They will use cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the advanced driver assist system segment.
By using vast amounts of test image data already gathered by Subaru, their goal is to improve development efficiency, which will significantly contribute towards the attainment of the advanced driver assist leading to zero accidents. The system has been in operation for about three weeks.
FHI ramps up their safety development
FHI and IBM, in the future will explore the building of a new system using IBM Watson Internet of Things (IoT) for Automotive, an internet of things (IoT) solution for the automotive industry based on the IBM cloud. FHI says their collaboration with IBM Japan will be the base for accelerating the development and evolving its safety technology level dramatically.
Subaru has publicly stated their goal is to be the overall auto safety leader. This collaboration with IBM is proof it’s more than just hype for the small Japanese automaker. They continue to improve their EyeSight driver assist system as a safety technology. The system could show up on the next-generation Subaru Forester, Outback and Crosstrek vehicles. Can they achieve zero accidents? Stay tuned.
