Subaru is up again, and it's now eighteen months in a row of growth. Check the impressive results. Is the automaker back on top?
How well is Subaru of America (SOA) doing in sales volume? It's now the 19th consecutive month of continued yearly month-over-month growth for Subaru of America. But like last month, it was close again. SOA reported 47,189 vehicle sales for February 2024, only a 3.1 percent increase compared with February 2023.
But the Camden, N.J. automaker is still going in the right direction in 2024.
"Subaru's lineup of vehicles continued to impress in February thanks to our retailers' hard work and commitment to delivering an exceptional purchase and service experience,” said Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America.
If it weren't for the hot Forester compact SUV delivering another strong performance, Subaru would see red instead of black.
The 2024 Subaru Forester is the top-selling model again. I report Subaru of America's monthly sales, and Forester has been the hot model for months. Forester was number one, followed by the Crosstrek and the Outback for second and third place.
Forester is still the hot model.
SOA says the 2024 Forester compact SUV retained its position as the top performer by volume in February with 14,882 vehicle sales, a whopping 48.4 percent increase over the same month in 2023.
Crosstrek and Outback are not far behind.
The next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV sales followed closely behind with 12,553 vehicles sold in February, and the 2024 Subaru Outback midsize SUV sales were above 10,000 with 10,412 models delivered to U.S. customers.
Here are the Subaru model rankings in February.
- Subaru Forester - 14,883 (+48.4%)
- Subaru Crosstrek - 11,325 (-15.3%)
- Subaru Outback - 10,412 (+14.3%)
- Subaru Ascent - 3,791 (-13.9 %)
- Subaru Impreza - 2,343 (-9.6%)
- Subaru WRX -1,395 (-46.3%)
- Subaru Legacy -1,248 (-18.2%)
- Subaru Solterra - 322 (-27.2%)
- Subaru BRZ - 243 (-33.9%)
Only two models had positive figures in the second month of 2024.
As you can see from my ranking above, Forester and Outback were the only two models that were up in sales volume compared with February 2023. All other models dropped in January.
Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales at Subaru of America, said, "February closed on a high note, adding another notch to our sales streak with 19 months of year-over-year increases."
MY TAKE
Subaru of America hangs on to its win streak, but it took a massive performance by the aging 2024 Forester compact SUV before the 2025 model arrives to make it happen.
And the Outback, another aging model, is the only other nameplate with a positive performance. The next-generation Outback announcement is coming soon. Subaru needs these two next-generation SUVs to keep the excitement rolling.
In The End
Subaru of America continued the trend with a 19-month streak of consecutive year-over-year increases. The automaker stays on top thanks to the smokin' hot Forester compact SUV. It may get better for the Forester as the 2025 Subaru Forester arrives this spring. Stay tuned.
