If You Want A Fourth-Generation Subaru WRX It’s Probably Too Late

If you want a 2021 Subaru WRX, you are probably too late to get one of the fourth-generation models. Subaru stops production to make way for the all-new 2022 WRX.

Performance customers who want one of the last 2021 Subaru WRX performance sedans are probably too late. Subaru Corporation stopped producing the fourth-generation models to make room on its assembly lines in Japan for the next-generation 2022 WRX.

Subaru of America reported only 31 2021 WRX and WRX STI sales for February, and they are likely the last 2021 models. This was a 98.2 percent drop compared with 1,721 performance models delivered to U.S. customers in February 2021. In January, Subaru of America reported only 341 WRX and WRX STI sales to start the new year.

A new trim level for the 2022 WRX

The 2022 WRX gets a new GT trim level with electronically controlled dampers with Comfort, Normal, and Sport settings. A new Drive Mode Select allows the driver to configure up to 430 customization options for steering feel, damper settings, and SI-Drive settings. The settings are configured through the 11.6-inch touchscreen multimedia display.

The GT trim gets Recaro performance front seats trimmed with black Ultrasuede and contrasting red stitching embossed the "Recaro" logo on the seatbacks. The performance seats feature black Ultrasuede throughout the interior. The driver's seat includes 8-way power adjustments.

Also exclusive to the GT trim level are 18-in aluminum alloy wheels in the matte gray finish wrapped in 245/40 R18 summer performance tires.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru WRX? The 2022 WRX comes in four trim levels: Base, Premium, Limited, and new GT, and gets a significant price increase over the outgoing model.

The 2022 WRX 6-speed manual trim level starts at $30,100. The WRX with Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) is $31,950, WRX Premium 6-speed manual is $32,600, WRX Premium SPT is $34,650, WRX Limited 6-speed manual is $36,990, WRX Limited SPT is $39,240, and WRX GT is $42,890. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($995).

When will the 2022 WRX Arrive in the U.S.?

The 2022 Subaru WRX should arrive this spring. There will be delays in production because of the ongoing global microchip shortage and the recent Subaru plant shutdown where the Japanese automaker manufactures the WRX. Stay tuned.

If you want a 2021 Subaru WRX, it's likely too late to find a fourth-generation performance sedan. Subaru of America reports only 341 WRX and WRX STI sales to start the new year.
