With new car prices at record levels and new models hard to find, what are the best ten-year-old models for SUV shoppers? iSeeCars released its new best-used cars for the money study and said the 2013 Subaru Outback is the second-best used SUV for the money under $13,000 with the longest remaining lifespan.

iSeeCars.com says they identified models with the longest lifespan and then compared them with their current used car values. This allowed iSeeCars.com to determine the best values for 10-year-old vehicles ranked by the price of their remaining lifespan (the lowest cost per remaining 1,000 miles of lifespan).

The 2013 Subaru Outback was the second highest-ranked SUV under $13,000 in the ten-year-old used car category. The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe was the highest-ranked used SUV, Subaru Outback second, Mazda CX-9 third, and Ford Edge fourth.

iSeeCars says the Subaru Outback is a top pick for shoppers because it comes standard with Symmetrical all-wheel-drive to bolster confidence in cold-weather states.

What is the price of the 2013 Subaru Outback?

iSee Cars says the 2013 Outback price per 1,000 miles is $152 and has an average price of $12,782. The remaining lifespan is 84,348 miles (40.5%) and has a potential lifespan of 208,298. How does the Outback compare with the Hyundai Santa Fe?

iSee Cars says the number one ranked Hyundai Santa Fe price per 1,000 miles is $131 and has an average price of $11,981. The remaining lifespan is 91,525 miles (44.3%) and has a potential lifespan of 206,398.

Subaru's standard all-wheel-drive vehicles excel in all-weather driving, but the brand is also known for its exceptional crash protection and safety record. As a result, the 2013 Outback earned the highest Top Safety Pick+ score from the IIHS.

Outback is a good choice because it is fuel efficient. What is the fuel mileage of the Subaru Outback?

The 2013 Subaru Outback with the 2.5-liter engine gets an estimated 24/30 city/highway mpg and 26 combined mpg with the automatic transmission and 18/24/20 with the 3.6-liter engine. Consumer Reports says the owner reported fuel mileage is 25 mpg overall.

2013 Outback features and upgrades

The 2013 Outback 2.5-liter engine received upgrades over the 2012 model. The updated models debut a new double-overhead-cam 2.5-liter engine with increased performance and fuel efficiency. The new engine produces 173 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque, compared to 170 horsepower and 170 lb.-ft. with the previous engine.

Three 2013 Outback Trim Levels

The 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5i models came in three trim levels; Base, Premium, and Limited. 2013 Outback 3.6R models were offered in Base and Limited.

KBB says, "Is it a crossover or a wagon? Does it matter when it's this useful? The 2018 Subaru Outback straddles categories to be as versatile as possible. Its standard AWD and high ground clearance make the Outback a perennial favorite of those facing winter weather, dirt roads, or both, and its wagon-like body style gives it 73.3 cubic feet of cargo space."
