The new J.D. Power IQS Japan study is out, and the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek wins the best SUV award. See why it's now the top model.

The refreshed 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is now the best SUV in its segment, according to the new J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) in Japan. The new Crosstrek wins the 2021 IQS award in the crowded midsize SUV category beating the top Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Nissan models.

The J.D. Power 2021 Japan Initial Quality Study released today is based on responses from 19,615 purchasers of new vehicles in the first two to thirteen months of ownership.

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek quality is evaluated by owners across 221 questions organized into nine vehicle categories: infotainment, features, controls and displays, exterior, driving assistance, interior, powertrain, seats, driving experience, and climate control. The study was conducted from May through June 2021.

Like the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Initial Quality Study, the Subaru brand scored below the industry average with 144 problems per 100 vehicles (PP/100). The industry average in Japan is 137 PP/100. Subaru scored just below Toyota (143/100) and ahead of Mazda, Mitsubishi, Audi, Mini, BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz.

In the U.S., the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is Subaru of America's hottest model. A recent study from iSeeCars found the Crosstrek is now the fastest-selling new car in seven U.S. cities, the most of any automaker's new car model. Read the full report here.

Why should SUV shoppers consider the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

The 2021 Crosstrek offers a younger demographic a subcompact SUV with standard all-wheel-drive, a taller ride height (8.7-inches of ground clearance), fuel efficiency, off-pavement performance (dual-function X-Mode), and the best industry safety crash scores and ratings.

Subaru hit the mark by offering the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport and Limited trims with the new 2.5-liter engine. The refreshed Crosstrek now comes with 30 additional horsepower to match its other strong qualities.

What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

The 2021 Crosstrek subcompact SUV comes in five trim levels for customers. The base trim is priced from $23,295, Premium ($24,345), all-new Sport ($27,545), and Limited ($29,045). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,050).

2021 Subaru Crosstrek shoppers should note that the small SUV is in high demand across the U.S. The global microchip shortage and plant shutdowns in Japan have limited supplies of the popular vehicle. Many buyers are now ordering the trim level and color they want and waiting for their new all-wheel-drive vehicle to arrive.
