A new report from Insure.com says the Forester Wilderness was the least expensive car to insure in 2022.

Insure.com compares car insurance rates in every state for approximately 3,000 different vehicle models to find both the cheapest and most expensive vehicles to insure. They found that the 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness was the least-costly new vehicle to insure at $1,353 last year., but insurance costs have gone up.

Why is Forester among the cheapest to insure?

Insure.com says, "Because of this vehicle's safety ratings and the lower price of parts associated with this model, this is less expensive to insure than virtually any other automobile."

"The cost to insure a Forester for a full-coverage, low-risk driver is very reasonable," says Lauren McKenzie, insurance broker/agent with A Plus Insurance in Sierra Vista, Arizona. "You are looking at about $150 a month or cheaper, depending on discounts drivers may qualify for."

Why are the Subaru Crosstrek and Forester a reasonable risk for insurance companies?

Insurance companies like that all Crosstrek and Forester trim levels have the latest safety features. It has automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alerts, and adaptive cruise control. Some Forester trims also come with the new DriverFocus technology that alerts the driver if it senses drowsiness.
