Chris Harris takes the Mercedes C63 AMG, Porsche 911 GT3 and BMW M3 GTS and puts the three cars through a two-day test drive on road and track.
Chris Harris has just recently jumped in three very nice, very expensive and very powerful German machines to see which one comes out on top. He took the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series, a BMW M3 GTS, and a Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 out on the road and the track for a two-day test drive. The half hour video is quite fun to watch as any of these coupes would be fun to own.
On day one, he takes the three out on the road for a thorough run and shows us what’s really the most important features and the performance may not be number one. Day two is when he gets the three sports coupes onto the track for the really fun stuff. We get to see which car has the best performance time around the track. You’ll have to watch the video to see the results, but before you do here is some information on each car.
The new Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series Coupe made its debut at the Formula 1 German Grand Prix on the Nürburgring. The Mercedes C63 AMG is powered by a 6.3 liter V-8 and delivers 510 horsepower and 457 lb-ft. of torque. Its 0 to 60 time is 4.2 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph. This new model features a beautiful design, some of the latest technology from the motorsport world, and the highest level of driving dynamics in the world.
Underneath that impressive exterior, the C63 AMG Black Series is equipped with an adjustable AMG coil-over sports suspension, and the AMG high-performance compound braking system to stop all that power. A special AMG Track Package is available that adds sport tires and active rear-axle transmission cooling. The AMG Aerodynamics package will include flics, a functionally tuned front splitter, and an adjustable carbon-fiber rear aerofoil.
The new 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is the sportiest in the GT3 RS line and virtually every dial has been turned up all the way to max on this car. The 911 GT3 RS 4 comes with a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine and the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is essentially a road going version of the 911 GT3 RSR race car but with one major difference, more power!
The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 has 500 horsepower, 45 horsepower more than the fully fledged race car, and more than 50 horsepower more than the regular 911 GT3 RS. The car has 339 lb. ft. of torque which is the most in any engine ever offered in a production 911. Available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will go from 0-60 mph in only 3.8 seconds, and it reaches the 124 mph mark in under 12 seconds.
Last but not least, the BMW M3 GTS is powered by a 4.4-liter V-8 with 450 horsepower and 324 lb. ft. of torque. It’s mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and helps the car get to 60 mph in under 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 189 mph. BMW engineers lowered the cars weight to 3,373 pounds, which should make the already wicked M3 even more scary on the track.
The BMW M3 GTS uses a bolted-in roll bar as well as factory mounting points for an additional cage for track use. BMW fitted the M3 GTS with hefty six-piston calipers squeezing on 14.9-inch rotors up front and four-piston blocks out back.
Enjoy watching these three special coupes and see which one wins.
