The new 2015 Subaru BRZ GT300 was just unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon and is already on the track for testing.
Right out of the Tokyo Auto Salon, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) and Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI) are already testing out the new 2015 Subaru BRZ GT300 race car. The race team took the BRZ GT300 to Malaysia Sepang Circuit this week to begin testing the sports coupe on the track. The first race isn’t until April, but the team immediately gets the car on the track to dial in the new tires and chassis changes.
Team employs new Dunlop tires
STI is changing to Dunlop tires this season and hopes it will make a difference from the Michelin meats they ran the previous two years. The BRZ GT300 drivers had problems the past two seasons getting the proper traction especially with the temperature changes. Tires play a critical role in the performance of the race car, and the team struggled to keep traction on the cool tracks. BRZ will run the same Dunlop tires that the 2015 WRX STI NBR uses for the Nurburgring 24-Hour Race.

First race April 4-5
The first race in the Super GT will take place on April 4-5 at Okayama International Circuit. Last years opener saw the Subaru BRZ start well but it was involved in an accident, could not be repaired and finished in 21st place. The track was hit by bad weather with sleet and rain pounding the circuit early in the morning. Temperatures were cold but there was blue sky when the race started. It went down hill quickly as the BRZ GT300 came in contact with multiple cars on the opening lap.
STI team manager Hideharu Tatsumi and R&D Sport led by Director Shinji Motojima, and Takuto Iguchi are hoping for much different results this year. The team hopes the new Dunlop meats employed on the new 2015 Subaru BRZ GT300 race car will make a big difference. Stay tuned.
