The 2021 Subaru Forester will be the next Subaru model to be announced. What can customers expect for the 2021 model year change?
Subaru introduced the 2021 Ascent, Crosstrek, Outback, Legacy, and the 2021 Subaru Forester is next in line for its reveal. What can customers expect for the 2021 model change? Subaru introduced the fifth-generation Forester in 2019, and the Japanese automaker launches a new model every five years with a "mid-cycle refresh" in the fourth year. The 2021 Forester is entering year three and won't see any significant changes. But check out below what could be coming in 2022.
What's next for the 2021 Forester?
The Forester compact SUV received a few new upgrades for 2020, with the main feature being a new Rear Seat Reminder. There is no word on when the 2021 Subaru Forester will hit showrooms, but based on previous years' on-sale dates and delays from plant closures this year, we estimate a fall 2020 arrival.
There are no details on the 2021 Forester's pricing, but with no significant changes in the works, we expect it to remain close to the current model's $25,505 (base trim) to $35,605 (Touring trim) price range including destination fees. Prices will likely raise a few hundred dollars on mid-to-upper trims.
Demand for the fifth-generation 2020 Subaru Forester remains extraordinarily high, and inventory on current models is in short supply. The compact SUV is back on top in the U.S., beating the popular Outback for the first time since 2016. Look for the popular Forester to stay on top as the brand's number-one-selling all-wheel-drive model.
There are three core values Subaru will not change on the Forester SUV. Those include excellent visibility, cargo-carrying ability, and versatility. The secret to Subaru's success is that they stick to the basics and keep improving on them.
The 2022 Forester is the one to watch
The 2022 Subaru Forester is the model change to watch. In its fourth year, the compact SUV will get a refresh with minor exterior and interior modifications and possibly new safety and technology upgrades. The 2022 Forester could also be coming with a new direct-injection turbocharged engine or an all-new hybrid model. Subaru has not confirmed this, but significant changes for the compact SUV are coming.
The 2021 Subaru Forester will get very few changes in its third year of the product cycle. If you are waiting for 2021 models, you won't gain much by waiting. We expect Subaru of America to announce the 2021 Forester pricing and model changes this summer. Stay tuned.
