Subaru just announced the Japan-spec 2022 Subaru Forester. So what will the 2022 Forester for U.S. customers be like, and when will it arrive?
The 2022 Subaru Forester was just announced in Japan, and it gets a refresh. Subaru gives most vehicles a "big model change" (BMC) in year four of its model cycle. Forester had a complete remodel in 2019, and 2022 is the year for more model changes.
A new exterior look
The 2022 Subaru Forester gets a new front fascia outside (headlights, bumper, hexagon grille). The 2022 Forester also gets newly designed aluminum wheels. In addition, the Japanese automaker has expanded the exterior color options with a new Cascade Green Silica, Autumn green metallic, and Brilliant bronze metallic.
Subaru Corporation put the 2022 Forester on display at its Subaru Ebisu headquarters showroom in Tokyo, Japan.
New upgrades inside
Subaru will also make upgrades to the Forester interior. Inside, the newly-refreshed Forester comes with brown Nappa leather seats and silver stitching. In addition, some trim levels will offer ultra suede leather with silver stitching.
Improved driving dynamics
In addition, Subaru Corporation says for the 2022 model change; Forester gets an improved suspension for all trim levels improving driving performance.
Improved safety technology
Subaru Corporation is continually improving its safety technology, and the 2022 Forester gets upgrades. The refreshed Forester comes with the new-generation Subaru EyeSight safety technology that includes stereo cameras with a wider angle (extended visibility) and improved software for an increased view of the road in front and behind the compact SUV.
Subaru has a goal of zero fatal accidents by 2030, and the next-generation EyeSight is another step in that direction.
2022 Forester models will get the rugged Wilderness upgrade
Subaru of America will introduce the 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness sub-brand model this year, confirmed by Subaru of New England. The new model will be for North American customers and get similar upgrades as the 2022 Outback Wilderness.
The rugged 2022 Forester Wilderness will get larger wheels, all-terrain tires, additional ground clearance (9.5-inches), protective underbody skid plates, aggressive exterior cladding, and a durable StarTex interior.
It's unsure what will power the Forester Wilderness, but the FA24 2.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque would be the perfect engine for the rugged model.
The 2022 Subaru Forester will come in six trim levels for U.S. customers; Base, Premium, Sport, all-new Wilderness, Limited, and Touring.
When will the 2022 Subaru Forester arrive in U.S. showrooms?
The retailer launch for the 2022 Subaru Forester should be this summer, but it could be pushed back to early this fall, 2021, because of the recently announced plant closure in Gunma, Japan, in July. The Forester Wilderness is expected to arrive at Subaru showrooms in November of 2021.
Subaru of America has not released information or pricing on the 2022 Forester. However, as the Camden, N.J. automaker reveals the 2022 Forester compact SUV changes, Torque News will publish the announced U.S.-specification upgrades.

I hope they fix the
I hope they fix the transmission, wheel bearings, control arm bushings, air conditioner, and catalytic converter. All of which my 2017 Forester had problems with before 85000 miles. Last Subaru I will ever buy... Smh
And my 2017 Forester with
And my 2017 Forester with nearly 100k has had none of that- every car will be different no matter who builds it
Same things for my 2017
Same things for my 2017 Forester. Apparently it was the worst year for Foresters
Anyone know if 2022 Forester
Anyone know if 2022 Forester rugged Wilderness will have Bluetooth Apple CarPlay? Plugging a phone into cable every trip is cumbersome.
My son has the new Outback
My son has the new Outback Wilderness and it does so I am assuming...
Wireless car play is not
Wireless car play is not standard on any Subaru yet. However, there is a wireless apple car play adapter that will work for any car with both apple car play and a Wi-Fi-hotspots built into the vehicle. Android users have a similar product that will accomplish the same but may take more advanced user to make work depending on the phone. Just google it and see how it works with your phone. Currently wireless car play is the most likely to glitch or cause trouble for users and can run your battery down so plugging in is the superior option that just works right consistently and your device chargers while in use.
I thought 2022 was going to
I thought 2022 was going to be all electric Forester ...I guess it'll be a niche model or something?
Wish I could be a fly on the wall at major automakers when they realize noone is buying gas cars...
Auto sales are crazy right
Auto sales are crazy right now- How many are electric? A very small percentage and it is going down-
QUOTE
Meanwhile, about 231,000 all-electric vehicles were sold in 2020, down 3.2% from 2018. In each of the past three years, EVs accounted for about 2% of the U.S. new-car market.Jun 7, 2021
First learn how to type and
First learn how to type and use spaces son. Your just so wrong but I'm sure your convinced your always right and I suspect you are in a large city or warm weather area. People like Subaru's for many reasons and most of us don't want to be the bandwagon folks who insist on having electric cars just to be hip and virtue signaling. Not a thing Subaru is about. They are very slow to make drastic changes until the tech is proven. And I know this because I have spent 30 years working with them at the Lafayette plant.
Instead of telling someone
Instead of telling someone that they need to learn how to type & not to leave spaces, you might consider learning how to spell & proper grammar! Who cares anyway, this isn't English class & he asked a legit question. Ford F150 will be electric! That's where the world is going whether we like it or not. Subaru will have a new electric car coming out next year and I won't be surprised to see it in a future Forester (2023?) or a better electric Outback.
Subaru is releasing new model
Subaru is releasing new model called Solterra in 2023. I don't think they will change Forester to all EV. At least not now.
BMC.. big minor change. FMC
BMC.. big minor change. FMC full model change. The mid-cycle refresh is called a BMC.
Make it available with the 2
Make it available with the 2.4-liter turbo engine (or equivalent) in there and I'll be ordering one immediately when it's available.
Styling is extremely
Styling is extremely subjective, but I can't get over the ugly stick that front end got smacked with. To me, it looks like someone repurposed some 2012 GM Terrain front ends from the junk yard and bolted them on a Forester.
For the US version will any
For the US version will any of these features be offered? Ventilated seats? Wireless Apple CarPlay? Wireless charging? All Eyesight X suite of features including full LED array headlights? If not, what model year expected for FMC on the Outback?
Subaru broke my heart when
Subaru broke my heart when they discontinued the 6 speed manual transmission feature on their Forester models after 2018.
My prayers would be answered if they bring the unit back.
My 2017 Subaru Forester saved
My 2017 Subaru Forester saved our lives today. We walked away bumped and bruised from a flipped over car. Totaled car but we are fine. I hope to get another Forester.
I have had a 2016 and a 2019
I have had a 2016 and a 2019 Forester Premium with no problems . I am eagerly awaiting arrival of the 2022 model. It is well suited for my needs. Even at speeds in excess of 90 mph it is rock solid, silent and handles well I have enjoyed my experience with this vehicle and look forward to my next one.
We were a 3 car Subaru family
We were a 3 car Subaru family for many many years, new cars every 2 1/2 to 3 years.
When Subaru quit turbo engines in their Forester XT models, we quit Subaru & have purchased Audi's ever since.
Hopefully one day Subaru will wake up and produce a performance Forester once again.
